We love Grovia brand hybrids. The disposable inserts have waterproof backing and gussets. So we have never had a pooplosion. The cloth is easy to use (snap it in). We always have to change the cover for a poop but never for a pee. Inserts are $17 for 2. I actually like the gDiaper cloth for the diapers (you have to get both sizes) and they are cheaper ($22 for 6).

I tried gDiapers because they are so cute, But they always leaked for me. I couldn't get the liner in the right spot to catch everything. It was just too hard for me.

We also tried the Flip brand. They were cheaper feeling to me. And much wider in the crotch. This is all compared to Grovia. So there is NOTHING wrong with them. But we did invest in their training pants because they are hybrid as well. I LOVE the training pants.

I'm subscribing b/c we want to know the same thing! Daycares seem more keen on the hybrids than the all-cloth. But we may end up with disposables during the day and cloth hybrids afterwards

I don't want to vote and mess up the results since I don't use disposable inserts but I did want to chime in and say that I love the way my Grovia fits (with their snap in inserts) my little one. I tried G diapers when she was a baby (17 months now) but I couldn't ever get a good fit although I loved the design of them. Also, I was still so new at CDing that it wouldn't be fair to blame a poor fit all on the diapers and not me. Also, from what I have read, I would strongly consider Flips with disposable inserts also. I have used our flips with our g-diaper inserts a few times and it has worked out nicely.

You aren't going to know what works for you until your baby gets here so I would just suggest buying a couple of each cover that you are considering and see what fits your LO best. I believe that you can use the different inserts in different covers so you can mix and match to find the best combo. Also, keep in mind that what works the best at month two, won't necessarily be the best diaper at month six. All the diapers I hated during the newborn stage are now my favorite.

@JoJoGirl: It may be a bit intimidating but its totally doable! I WOHM full time. Our daycare does cloth and with the liners we don't handle the poo (the liner and the poo get thrown out). The liners are about $0.02 a piece. We just dump the diapers in the wash every other day.

I didn't want the disposable inserts because you kinda have the worst of both worlds. They are often almost $0.50 a piece (a normal disposable diaper is around $0.20-$0.25 a piece) and you still have to wash the shell!!

@jojo, oh yeah, i've been on the hybrid diaper train for awhile; the one daycare I talked to about it was OK with it. I think we may just keep a few different kinds around, see which we like, THEN stock up.

@JoJoGirl: I don't really understand why others think the snap in liner is difficult. It's not a problem at all for me. Like you said sometimes a little poo will get on the liner but not the outer pant so I just snap out the liner and snap in a new one and get to reuse the outer pant. I just wash the liners in a laundry bag wish my regular wash and air dry. I bought 2 extra pack of liners bc that's what usually ends up dirty. It's so convenient and easy. Maybe people have a difficult time setting up their diaper station (I keep my flushables and liners in the bathroom). It can sound complicated but it's sooooo easy. I think the blog that helped the most was joyfulabode. I've never had fit issues (I watched the videos on YouTube and the gdiaper website). My LO is almost 14 months and we've used gdiapers since she was about 2 months..maybe her body was just made for them. She is still in the medium gpants. I think we've had a handful of blowouts whereas my neighbor has blowouts weekly (she uses disposables).

@JoJoGirl: I have cloth too and used them a lot when LO was younger bc she just sent through diapers more frequently. Honestly the reason I started using mostly flushables is bc my LO poos a lot and even though she eats 3 large meals of solids and 2 snacks her poos are not always so solid. So around 10 months I started pretty much always using flushables...I used to get them at diapers.com bc they always had 20% off coupons but that ended so now I used subscribe and save from amazon. I plan to use cloth more regularly when her poos change (she's still nursing 3 times a day)...especially as we approach potty training I want to use cloth bc I heard it helps since the baby can feel the wetness more.

Our daycare was VERY on board with using these. We use a pocket diaper that is all set and ready to go and they just lay a liner in it. At the next diaper change they throw the liner and any poo away and snap on a fresh diaper.

Also, we use coconut oil as a CD safe diaper creme and love it.

I would really recommend looking at diapers in person before you invest. I was curious about Gdiapers but seeing them compared to Grovia in person there was no comparison.

@JoJoGirl: we use both pockets and grovia cloth hybrids. In both of those the liner goes on top so daycare has to do that step.

You should definitely try different brands and see what fits best for your little one. Mine is long and skinny and I've heard Grovias are good for long and skinny. I don't know how everything would work if the legs are thicker. I got some cheap gDiaps to try (thus not liking them) and really at the beginning collected diapers to try (thus the Flip). Get one or two of each brand and see how they work for you. You can always resell them if it doesn't work out.

@blackbird: I am curious to hear why daycares would want the hybrid disposables versus the all cloth? I don't see how its more work for them as long as the diaper is already assembled (for example our daycare wouldn't do prefolds or anything like that).

One thing I would caution about Pockets is that I prefer natural inserts because the microfiber inserts that come with a lot of pockets get stinky and clogged quickly.

I also love gDiapers but DS didn't sleep last night so I can't give them their fair due.
DS leaks out of almost every kind of diaper but in the end gDiapers worked best for us (but not overnight--boo).
