My 9 month old hasn't taken to her sippy cup yet. I heard good things about this one. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.
The spout is really weird. Looks like a tongue! But I hear it's a good transition from bottle/boob to sippy cup.

I have tried so many and my LO only liked the simplest ones like the Tilty Cup and the Take and Toss ones. Aaah, I don't miss those days. Now she can just drink out of a regular cup so I am done stressing about bottles/sippys/straw cups. I can say this is a good feeling!

We went straight from bottles to straw cups. We started with take and toss cups and now he just drinks from any straw cup. We send Munchkin closeable straw cups with him to daycare, and at home he drinks from a take and toss - like cup from Old Navy that has a solid plastic straw he can't bite closed, and a lip on the straw so he can't pull it out of the cup.

I have heard as well that often its easier to transition to a straw sippy cup.

I've tried giving my 9 month old a straw.. and she has no idea what to do with it. haha.

@chopsuey119: my friend started her LO with a straw by holding the liquid in the straw and then letting it fall out into her LO's mouth (you know how you put your finger at the top of the straw to hold water in there? Sorry can't describe better). LO eventually learned to suck out of the straw once she learned to put her mouth around it.

My LO actually likes to drink straight from cups, but doesn't drink very much.. need to get her to start drinking lots and lots from any type of cup so my boobs can have a break!

i've tried soooooo many sippy cups. i think every kid's preference is different. the straw cups like the zolibot worked best for us too when charlie was little. now he prefers to tilt cups back, but will still use a straw cup.
the tilty cup andrea mentioned is pretty cool -- i just wish it had handles to make it easier for little hands to hold.
charlie has been drinking out of regular cups for awhile, but we send sippy cups to daycare. i wasted sooo much money trying to find the perfect sippy cup. i don't know if it really even matters which one you get... they'll drink from a regular cup soon enough!

So far we've tried the MAM ones but the hard spout is throwing him off and the soft spout ones don't have a valve so . . . it doesn't work for me since he refuses to drink water. I've tried the NUK soft spouted sippy and he'll drink about 1-2 oz. Same with the soft spouted Tommee Tippee, he'll drink some but not a whole bottle worth. It is a work in progress. I've also tried the straw sippy by Safe Sippy but that is also a hard spout so he just chews on it. I've read that the Nuby is a great sippy but I couldn't find it in store so I just got the NUK and Tomme Tippee ones and so far there is more progress with those than others. My son can't graduate to toddlers at daycare until he can drink out of a sippy so we have to find one that will work for him eventually.

My son didnt understand how to use a sippy cup until he was 10 months. We use a soft spout nuk transition bottle. Sippy cup spout but soft like a bottle.

I also started with a straw cup @ 6 months my friend recommended this playtex one where it was soft enough at the bottome that you can help squeeze thr liquid up through thr straw just so baby gets the idea of the straw. A few times trying that she started
To get the hang. I also use the zolibot, I love that their straw is softer.
LO also took to a regular cup very early but I insisted on giving her a sippy cup because she likes to

We never had an issue with transitioning from bottle to zippy to straw. I really loved the Tomee Tipee sippy's (haha, that rhymed!), they have a soft spout, a well-made valve, and handles to grip.
We've been on the hunt for a leak-proof straw sippy, if anyone has an recommendations.

We also introduced the playtex straw cup when my DD was 6-months old and starting solids. At first she didn't know what to do with it, but one day I decided to dip the straw part in some juice and then I squeezed the cup a bit to help the liquid flow out... and she started figuring it out from there. It took a bit of practice but dipping it in juice definitely helped and made her curious for more!

We skipped the sippy cup stage as well. DS took right to a straw cup. He prefers drinking out of an open cup now but I still offer a cup with lid and straw to him for times when I can't hover over him to make sure he's not spilling it all over.

We were also very successful with the Zolibot sippy cup. Getting them on the Zolibot, the transition from a bottle to a sippy cup was so much easier.
