What is your toddler's favorite toy? My daughter doesn't seem to have very much interest in any toys that I buy her. I don't know if it's her or the toys...probably her. But curious to know what your toddlers like to play with the most?

hmmm i'm trying to rack my brain to try and remember what DD liked at your DD's age... i just know that at around 2 yo she started really getting into pretend play, so her kitchen and play food were big hits. she also got a trike for her 2nd bday. she loved legos and building too. she also got really good at puzzles at that age.
when i find her getting bored of toys i rotate them (hide some in her closet) so they are "new" again later on. that might help!

@NYCaliMama: thanks! i do have all those things for her already. she doesn't really have enough toys for me to hide some but that is a really great idea. i notice that they do that at daycare.
i was thinking that perhaps i need to come up with craft projects and more things along those lines to keep her occupied instead of toys.

You could also do some Montessori Practical Life tasks...it doesn't have to be anything super complex, like pouring rice, spreading peanut butter on a slice of bread, that kind of thing.

@looch: she seems to enjoy the sensory table at daycare a lot...which is along those lines. thanks!

You could do a sensory box scavenger hunt...I think she'd probably love it.

My LO is 20 months old and isn't into toys either. He likes to play with sensory type objects like PPs mentioned. Here some of the things he likes to play with (for ideas):
- Pens in a cup: I placed around 20 different shaped/colored pens in a tall plastic cup and he loves pulling each one out and putting them back in.
- Wallet: We gave him his own little wallet with fake money and fake credit cards. He loves pulling each one out and putting them back in. We tried to make it educational by making each card a different color and we would say the color outloud as he pulls each card & money out. We just used cardstock and laminated them to make the fake credit cards. He LOOOVES this one.
- Beans/coins/bells in tupperware: We placed a bunch of different small items in mini tupperware containers and he loves shaking them to hear all the different sounds. We used beans, rice, coins, bells, marbles.
- Pom poms in a bag: We found a small mesh laundry bag and stuffed it with A LOT of mini poms poms from the craft store. He loves pulling each one out. It makes a bit of a mess but it keeps him busy for a long long time.
- Doing the "laundry": LO likes to sit on top of our laundry machine and put his clothes in the washer one by one. Then I'll put them out and have him put back in the laundry basket. And repeat. He really likes this one.
I have alot more of these but these are probably his faves. We don't even buy him toys anymore because he doesn't really show any interest in them. He has much more fun with our free "toys" that we just make up. At least it saves us money! LOL

@banana: hi! good to know that there are other 20 month olds who aren't so into toys either. thanks for all your ideas and if my LO likes this kind of stuff better then yes, it seems to be a good money saver. LOL!

@andrea: hi! Yeah, I thought it was weird that he wasn't into toys either because during playdates with other kids, everyone else will play with toys except for my little guy. He'll go and like play behind the curtain or swing the blinds or try to climb the stairs. Sometimes I wish he WOULD like toys so that we can have some quiet play time!

@banana: my LO seems to play with toys when other kids are around but not with DH and I. quiet play time is certainly scarce in our household, too!
