Can someone tell me what to buy if my son wants beyblades for his bday? We don't have any and he's played them once at a friend's house. Is there a beyblade starter pack?

I heard there’s a starter kit at Costco - basically you need an arena, launcher and the beyblades. I think arena and launcher are often (but not always!) sold together. I’ve also heard you can get extra beyblades at Five Below if you have that near you.

This shows all the pieces but there are many arenas to choose from. This one is from the target app.

My boys were obsessed with beyblades for like a year! We have way too much stuff. So yes, I will agree with the above except to say that the beyblade and the launcher are usually sold together. Just go to Target and you'll see a bunch of them. Having an arena is nice but it's not necessary. Honestly for a long time, we just used one of my cookie sheets. We also just let them rip on our floor and that's sometimes good enough. This obviously doesn't work if you have carpet. My oldest went to before and after school care and they would just battle on the gym floor. I say this b/c the arenas can be super expensive for what is essentially a piece of thin molded plastic. Depending on how into them they get, be on the look out for deals b/c we've been able to find them for half price. There's also a Beyblade show on Netflix that they liked to watch. It's pretty harmless.
DH and I were just talking about how an old coworker of his told him that kids will get really into these for about a year and then will just stop. That pretty much happened in our house though I will say we got almost 2 years out of them. I think it's bc of the pandemic and they didn't do before care anymore so they weren't playing with their friends. Either way, they're really just fancy tops but they are pretty fun. Pretty soon you'll hear all about attack types and defense types.....

Ooh, finally, my sweet spot! We have SO MANY beyblades. Agreed that you don't really need an arena, but if you buy one, buy a basic one - we have one similar to the one shown above and my kids don't really use it because it has a lot of little tracks and stuff that the blades can get stuck in. We have a plain square one that gets more use but also they mostly just get used on the hardwood. I would get a basic one like this: https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/toys/beyblade-burst-surge-speedstorm-beystadium/630509980819-item.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwLKFBhDPARIsAPzPi-L8SJ1QtdJXyaxjhu_-duxi9Ez6EmtmMpQ3bltnjvrrvXzCmp_s8_oaAuRrEALw_wcB&s_campaign=goo-Shopping_Toys_ACQ and then just a few starter packs of blades. Also I would say skip the fancy launchers, they're too complicated, the basic rippers are fine. And DO NOT let your kid get into the beyblade tv show, because if they do they'll start hearing the complicated names of all the really fancy ones and then you will end up on Amazon frantically trying to figure out what your five year old is saying and then paying $30 for a beyblade.

@Mommy Finger: Thank you! If we get a year of interest out of these I'll be happy haha!
@erinbaderin: This made me laugh, thanks for the advice!

@erinbaderin: Ha! You're right about the tv show but I'm such a mean mom that thinks even the $12 ones are a rip off so I just happily say no.
Then again, I was trying to find some diamond Bakugan at Christmas time that became too hard and I gave up. Are your kids into Bakugans yet? Because they will be. Beyblades are like the gateway drug....

@Mommy Finger: lol!! Gateway drug...so true!
Last summer all I heard wast 3 2 1 let er rip!! My little one was able to start operating one on his own by the time he was 2🤦♀️
If you do get a stadium get a basic cheap one. The fancier ones aren’t played with any more than the basic over here. You can buy beys with or without launchers. Once you have a couple launchers you are good.
Now that my boys have accumulated a good collection they don’t touch them. I agree that they are lived for about a year. I’m holding on to everything for when my little guy hits his phase!!
