So I've had what I *think* are BH contractions today. Was reading online and many sites are saying to call your ob if you have more than 4 in a hour.
My water intake has been decent today so I don't think it's dehydration. Also I'm 29 weeks.
Never had BH with LO1 so this is new to me.
Wondering what others experience have been like and what their OB said. I have a appointment Friday and will ask then too!

I got them off and on from 24 weeks until I delivered. I usually was stressed about something at school (like if students were being particularly wild), walking a lot, or dehydrated. I would sit down and put my feet. Then I would drink a glass of water. They would go away.

My dr said more than 6 an hour (so one every 10 minutes) and/or if they started to become rhythmic/have a pattern to them.
I often actually had more than 6/hour but it was the rhythm part that helped me calm down because it would be 2-3 in 10 minutes, then none for 20, then 1, etc...
I had them starting at 20 weeks (but obviously, I was bigger than normal since I had twins.) I think they're really common anytime in the 3rd trimester!

I had them starting around 24 weeks I think. I don't even think my doctor discussed them with me! But mine were always random and I never felt like I was having so many that I needed to call.

Mine started at 22 weeks and just became a fact of life. Generally, they went away if I drank a couple glasses of water and sat for a bit.

I had them from the early 20-weeks until the end. I often had more than 4 in an hour; my OB was most concerned with ones that took on a rhytmic pattern, just like @Trailmix: said.
When I would have more than 5 or 6 in an hour, she suggested I sit or lay down for a while and drink a glass of water.

I had them from 16 weeks on. And I definitely had more than 4 an hour at times! They ended up telling me to come in if i had more than 10 an hour and they were rhythmic. That ended up happening to me too, and when I went into triage, there was no change in my cervix.
If you're worried, don't hesitate to call! But for me, they were just a normal part of pregnancy.

I didn't have any with my first pregnancy, but got them earlier with each pregnancy after. My OBGYN never got too concerned, and her rule was more than 4 an hour (I religiously had more than 4 an hour)

@Trailmix: @yoursilverlining: thanks! That's helpful and makes sense. Since a rhythm would be more like true labor.
@Pepper: I'm not too worried because I feel great otherwise! But yours sounded rough!

I got them ALL the time and way before 37 weeks (not 29, but like 34?)
If I called whenever I had more than 4/h, I would've been on the phone every hour for 6w straight.
But, I mentioned it to my OB once while there and she checked me real quick and said, "nope, just bh." So, I think that's why I ignored them from then on out.
Anyway- you've been in labor before. I think you'll be able to tell if they don't feel right (even if it's the first time to experience bh). I'd listen to my guy if I were you.

@locavore_mama: My OB also sad to call if they were painful. BH were sometimes "tight" feeling or uncomfortable, but I wouldn't have said they were painful.

I have them a lot (now 32 weeks, buts it's been happening for awhile). The OB said as long as they are not rhythmic and more than 6 or so an hour it is fine. I definitely notice that they come on after picking up/running after my toddler. Everyone tells me to take it easy but that's not quite possible while taking care of a 16-month old.

I had them starting at 25 weeks. They were never painful, just tight, and they were never rhythmic. I asked my midwife about them and she said it was totally normal, so I basically stopped worrying about them. I noticed I got them when I was too active though.

With #2 I had them starting between 10-12 weeks, can't remember. They were frequent, and definitely had more than 4 an hour all throughout pregnancy. My ob said as long as I can get up, move around, drink water, go to the bathroom and make them go away, they are nothing to be concerned about and not actual labor. This was what helped me know I was in labor, when I finally could not make them go away with moving around and drinking.

Hope you are ok! I've had them off and on for a few weeks but never more than a couple per hour, or it was when I really exerted myself (cleaning the bathroom, etc) but they went away when I sat down.

@locavore_mama: my OB said they're very common to happen earlier with a second pregnancy.
With that said, if they come in a pattern (ie every 10 minutes, every 25 minutes, etc) then to head into triage.

I have had Braxton Hicks with this baby (#2) since 18 weeks and I get them regularly at night now that I'm 36 weeks - definitely more than 4 an hour. They are uncomfortable and annoying but definitely not painful like a real contraction, so I figure all is well!

This pregnancy, #2, I've had them for ages! I was having a bunch one night, definitely more than 5 an hour and I called my midwife. She said her concern was more pain than frequency.

I remember having what I thought was cramping all day before my water broke at 30w, I realize now they were probably legit early stage contractions. Just keep on top of them!

Mine started around 16 weeks. They were infrequent at that point, but gradually picked up enough that I've talked to my doctor(s) more than once. At this point (27w) if I'm on my feet too much or get dehydrated at all, they can drop to as frequent as 1 minute apart. My doctor said when that happens to get off my feet and drink a quart of water. Every doctor I've talked to (and it's been several because I've had to see so many with other issues, and I've brought it up every time it's seemed like it was getting worse) has said that as long as they're not painful at all, I have no bleeding or mucus-y discharge, and the baby is still active not to worry. Apparently I'm just one of those people who contracts a lot, but I'm showing no signs that they're anything but BH's.
So all that to say, I wouldn't worry too much, but drink a lot of water and stay off your feet, and talk to your doctor at your appointment.

@Mrs. M: lol for sure. They haven't stopped since I posted. And doesn't help that DH has to work till 9 so I haven't sat down since getting home. and he's heading out of town.
I'm sure it's nothing too but I might just call the nurse line if they don't calm down after I put my feet up in a bit.

I had painful BH from 29 weeks on right until my induction. They came and went randomly, no matter what I did or didn't do. Hang in there mama!

With LO #1, I never felt a single BH; with LO #2, I started noticing them around 26-27 weeks and they became uncomfortable maybe around 34-35 weeks (not painful though). I had to be super hydrated, ie 3-4 litres of water per day hydrated, and take it very easy to keep them at bay. Still didn't cause me to go into labour early - LO was born one day late!
