Need help with a big sister gift for my friend's daughter. She will be almost 3 when her baby brother arrives, and I want to bring her something awesome. Is a barbie a good gift for that age, or is she too young? Or maybe one of the american girl dolls for younger kids?

My 3 yr old cousins like stickers, stuffed animals, play doh...not sure about age appropriateness of Barbie. I think you'd have to be a little older to appreciate American Girl dolls--those things are so expensive! But I'm not familiar w/ones made for younger kids; that could be cool.

i would definitely recommend a doll or a baby doll - or even some kind of activity that she can do quietly or make things "for" the baby (like, @tororojo: suggested, with stickers she can make little projects and things)

I have a dear friend with a 2 year old who is about to give birth to #2, and I've been looking at the American Girl's Bitty Baby. I want to get her something, since I'm sure it'll be a big adjustment for her. And she loooves attention, so sharing the spotlight might be rough for awhile. I'm thinking a baby doll is a good way to go.

My parents always bought us a new doll every time a baby came along...being the oldest, I got 3! lol

Bitty Babies are great and she is at the age where she will just be getting into them. I found they usually need to be a little older for Barbies unless they have older sisters. (There is a pretty big price gap between the two gifts though.) Things she can do independently will be great, art supplies that aren't messy (stickers, color wonder, fun crayons).
