I am starting to plan R 1st birthday party. I think my biggest tip to anyone is start early. If I put things off I get way more stressed.
What is your biggest tip?

1) Don't procrastinate and get tons of sleep the night before so you can enjoy the party. Last minute projects will only get stressful and disappoint.
2) Assign someone else to take pictures, especially someone with good camera skills (doesn't have to be professional) so you can be fully present.
3) Delegate tasks to family and let go of control freak tendencies so you have time to mingle a little but with all of your guests.
4) Have fun!

Create a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. My headings include:
item
description (color/ package info etc)
source (websites, brand)
Quantity/ need
price
total price
Completed (purchased)
Even if I source the same item at several places I put it all down on my spreadsheet. This way until the item is purchased all of my fav options are still available and I don't have to search for the items as I change my mind which happens often.

Don't feel badly if you can't get to all the projects on your list!

@Kimberlybee: I am really hoping my one cousin can make it down, so I can give her our camera. She does it as a side business. If not I will be giving to another member to take pictures. I know DH and I won't be able too. Plus I want to be in the pictures.
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Girl, I am an accountant, excel spreadsheet is the first on my list

@Smurfette: Oh that would be perfect if your cousin can make it to take the pictures for you. Crossing my fingers for you. Your LO is a March baby right? Hope you have perfect spring break weather on her bday!

Outsource as much as possible! Don't commit to anything the day before, take the day off work if needed.

Use what you have. F
I plan my menu based on the serving dishes I currently have. Thanks to my workplace White Elephant I will now serve a virgin drink in my new drink dispenser and an alcoholic drink in my punch bowl. Before then guests had two choice: alcohol or water from the fridge. Ha ha

Definitely agree on the photos! Get a friend who you know takes good photos to be the photographer at the party. But one thing I wish I had done but didn't do at the time - take photos of the room / setup / cakes etc. before people arrive. Luckily one friend got a photo of the big cake and smash cake together, but I should have taken that one ahead of time.

@Smurfette: my real advice would be to plan ahead and with a spreadsheet you'll be fine!
