I've been giving some thought to my birth control options after LO comes, and thought I'd ask you ladies for some input. DH and I are thinking we are probably 'one and done,' but are open to a second maybe in 5 years or so.
For you ladies out there who wanted a more long-term solution than the pill, what did you choose and how did it work out for you?

I'm taking the mini-pill but am thinking about exploring an IUD after I'm done BF since I am happy with 2 LO and don't want anymore; however DH periodically makes statements about wanting a third.

still breastfeeding at this point and only using condoms at this point. I've never been on the pill or anything hormonal

Right now, I'm EBF and using condoms...I need to do more research into the mini pill and how it affects supply.

I am only 8w pp, and 1w into the IUD, on my 2nd AF (argh) despite EBF'ing.
It's a short term thing for us as we hope to try this summer for #2, but potentially an option again after that one!

We're also not sure if we want #2 but definitely don't want an "oops" baby...which I felt like we might end up with if not getting pregnant relied solely on me remembering to take a pill every day. I had a Mirena IUD placed. No user error baby, and lasts 5 years.
ETA: Once we decide for sure we're done having babies DH is planning on getting a vasectomy.

I have an IUD and love it. No remembering to take a pill (I know timing is more important with the mini-pill) and no condoms. We want to wait until LO is 2 to try for a second baby, so this was an easy decision.

I had a Mirena IUD put in when I was about 10 weeks. I'm BF and FF but the FF is not due to a drop in supply. It's gone great so far, I've only had minimal spotting and nothing for over a month at least at this point (she's 22 weeks today). I like that I don't have to remember to take a pill plus it's in there for a long time. We don't want a second until she's at least 2.5-3, if ever.

My OB refused to place an IUD until we were 100% sure we were not going to have any more kids because, though she's never had an issue, she does not want to have me be the one instance where things go wrong. I didn't want to do the mini-pill because I was breastfeeding so we chose to just use condoms and have stuck with it even though I'm no longer nursing my son.

I had a Mirena IUD for four years pre-pregnancy and loved it. I had no period for the whole time, never had to remember to take a pill, and the conceived quickly after removal. It's what I'll be using after LO arrives.

After this one dh's gonna get a vasectomy -
I considered using ecological breastfeeding (ebf'ing on demand, co-sleeping, no pacis, etc) but we ran into alot of feeding issues that had us introduce a paci AND she's stayed the night away from us so no ecological bf'ing here.
We use condoms & I'm beginning to track my body (still don't have a period so not really "tracking cycles"). I used to be on nuvaring but have since decided to not go back on hormonal anything.

I love all the different solutions you have. IUD seems to be a good no-fuss option, @BelugaBean: so you're good to BF with an IUD? I need to look more into it.

@Bookworm: Yep, my doctor knew I was BF when we talked about my options. We had also talked about the copper IUD but I've read that it can make your periods and cramps heavier and mine were already heavy before I got pregnant so I didn't want to deal with that.
I do know that it says in a very small percentage of women, it can cause a low milk supply but I haven't had that issue.
