Does anyone who planned a home birth or birth center birth have a birth plan for transfer they'd be willing to share? I'm at a loss. We're hoping for a successful home birth, but in the event of a transfer, I want to be sure we have the basics covered.

@Vegmama: No, but I just wanted to say that's a really great idea. We were totally unprepared for when I transferred to the hospital. Ugh. Definitely put something on there about monitoring...I was stuck on an exam table for 5 hours attached to a monitor.

I would write out my preferences in the event of a c section for sure! I included it in my hospital birth plan. DH gets immediate skin to skin ASAP if I'm unable to, double stitching, etc. I'm not sure what else you could plan in the case of an emergency if you needed to transfer.

I didn't have a written one and we've never had to transfer, but it's definitely a good idea. Sooooo, no, I don't actually have one to share, lol. If nothing else, it's good to at least think about the different scenarios and the options in each scenario and discuss what you would prefer with your partner and your birth team.

@Vegmama: I'm not sure what transfers are like where you live, but where I am they can be heinous. Hospital staff are often VERY hostile toward homebirthers.
So the big things I would include (if I were homebirthing in my city) would be bold letters at the top, before any of my preferences, that said "I understand it can be an inconvenience to recieve a such late transfer into your care. I have had complete prenatal care beginning at # weeks gestation and have had an uncomplicated pregnancy. My sonogram and laboratory records are attached." And then have copies of everything ready for them.
If you can help them believe you're not a crazy hippie from the get-go, I think it's more likely they'll consider your requests later, especially things that go against their typical habits.
