If no one is traveling far, it doesn't matter to me. My nephews live 4-5 hours away from me so I prefer Sat for theirs so we don't have to drive late at night but otherwise, I like the idea of having it on her bday.

I'm torn about this too. My sister has to travel about 4 hours to get here, but I'd prefer to have her birthday on the Sunday. We're only doing a 1-3 cake and punch deal but Sunday seems so much nicer to me.

I went to a kids birthday party once where there were tons of gifts. It was a 2 kids combo party and they didn't open gifts at the party. I really liked it, because like you, I find watching gifts being opened boring, plus, it kinda took the focus off gifts. The focus was on all the kids playing and having fun rather than on getting stuff.

Because of where we wanted to do our party, our only option was a Sunday. It actually ended up being nice because it seemed that people didn't linger for too long and more people were free to come since most other events usually fall on Saturdays. We are normally Saturday people, but going forward we don't really have a preference anymore.

As far as presents, we brought them home to open. It was getting late and no one ever seems like they care to watch anyway.

doesn't matter to me. when you have kids, your weekend plans usually involve doing something with the kids anyway.

I personally like celebrating birthdays on the actual day. Sunday will be fine since you don't have people traveling super long distances. I am not a fan of opening presents at parties. The last kiddie party I went to was for a young child and after he opened a cool toy he wanted to play with he was not interested and rather cranky about having to open the other ones. I say skip the gift opening at the party, but provide sticky notes on the gift table to make sure all the gifts are labeled for the thank you notes.

We prefer Sundays because (well, pre-baby) we usually had more events and adult things to do on Saturdays. A baby/kiddo party usually ends early enough on Sundays to get home and relax before the weekend ends.

If her actual bday falls on a Sunday I would do it on that Sunday. I don't think it really matters which day you have it though since after a while you'll be going to bday parties on both days and sometimes two in one day. It's insane...
