my mom actually used to buy the precious moment figurines for my cousin (her godson). I think she started forgetting after a few years though, lol! i remember them being cute..they were train-themed.

DH plans to buy our son a hot wheels car for all major life events... And some not so major ones 
he's 5 months and we already have 3! He used to collect them...

My Mom got me all of these until I was 18. They're packed in a box in my closet. I was thinking of re-gifting them to my daughter. Is that weird? I would have to buy a couple of them that broke, though.

I gor these until I was 16. I loved getting them and they used to be displayed in my room during most of my childhood: http://www.oldtowngifts.com/htmls_enesco/enesco_growing_up_birthday_girls_brunette.htm (I noticed they sell a charm bracelet version which might be a neat alternative and I love the idea of adding new charms for milestones!)

We also do a similar thing for Christmas with an ornament every year.

How about a links of london charm bracelet, and u can add a charm for each life event? Or how about a book each year that marks something special about that year? I would love to hear other people's ideas for this!

I've seen snow globes as a tradition, charms, crystal figurines. I'm probably not going to do anything though.
