My 3 1/2 mo old LO has a blocked/clogged tear duct. It's a little crusty after she wakes up and runs a little bit while she's awake. I've been using a warm wash cloth to clean/wipe her eye. She's just getting over a little cold, and has been congested in her nose, does this contribute to the clogged tear duct?
Anyone's LO ever have a blocked tear duct? What did you do to remedy it, did you have to go to the dr.?

DD was born with one. She is 13 days old and the dr. prescribed eye drops. The eye crusties have started to clear up after only a few days of use so I would ask your dr. about the drops!

@andrea-thank you! I want to avoid going to the dr. if possible, hoping to try some home remedies first, if that doesn't improve the blockage, the we'll be making a trip to the dr!

@soccermomma: the dr's first instructions were to boil water, cool it down, and then wet a cotton ball in it to wipe the gunk away. then use your finger to massage the inner corner of the eye. but that wasn't working so she prescribed the drops.
since your LO has a cold, maybe she has an eye infection? my older daughter has also had an eye infection that needed drops.
i've also seen some posters say to use some breastmilk on the eye but i didn't try that.

I called our doctor and he said to use a warm washcloth a few times a day. I read online that you can use a few drops of breastmilk. I tried that and it worked immediately!

We were told to massage the duct and wipe his eye down with a clean wet washcloth several times a day. It went away on it's own a week or so after we started massaging it.

Massage a few times a day with a warm compress. Also, if you have it, squirt a little breastmilk into the eye for a few days. It works.

Both my kids had this and we used a cotton ball with warm water to wipe gently every day as suggested by the pedi and it cleared up on its own in a few weeks.
