Have you read any of these books with your kids or do your kids read these books? I brought them out recently and very casually started adding them to our rotation at night. My 4 year old really enjoys pointing out the letters and telling us what they are. She does not like me telling her what the word is.
I got them at Costco, so the numbering is different than the ones for sale on Amazon, but Collection 1 was like pulling teeth to get him to read and it wasn't exactly a treat to listen to. ("Mat. Mat sat. Sam. Sam sat." is just not that fun.) They get a lot better/more interesting and even sometimes funny as you go, so we stuck with it through those first sets and I'm glad we did. I would recommend them as practice. It's hard to find readers for the very early stages, and these are as good as they come, I think. But I stand by my assessment that the first ones are incredibly boring.
