Have any of you used BOB books to help teach reading? I bought the second collection today, and I know DD couldn't read this yet. And I was wondering if it would be a waste of money to buy Collection 1. She knows all the letters and sounds, but no sight words yet. Does Collection 1 start with sight words?

Collection 1 is the best to start with. There are lots of site words, but it is also really good at helping kids establish confidence in reading.
They are not super engaging, which was a drawback, but we also found Books to Remember which are a little spendy, but fabulous for engagement and have used those too!

1 is for beginning readers and goes over the sounds of letters. I bought the Sight Words Kindergarten by accident when I should have bought set 1 for LO. I think if your LO knows all the sounds then the Sight Words Kindergarten might be good for her. LO is too young for reading but the books are so cute and short, she knows a couple of the words by sight now but we should really be working on the sounds.

I was surprised by how much LO loves the Bob Books because there's not much to them. The thing I love about the Bob Books is that I can read 5 at bedtime and LO thinks she's winning something because we normally read 1-3.

@mrsjazz: They are gorgeous and have a little more softness and rhythm to them while being very readable for new readers. They are just spendy.

We've loved all of the bob books! B started level one at 4 years old and just finished level 3 at 5.5

I was an independent learner and taught myself to read early, but my mom swore by BOB books for my sister.
