If someone asks you for a book recommendation, what are some of the books you are always recommending? It can be a series of books as well! I usually always ask what type of books they are into first, since I read a select few genres. I'm really into YA and Fantasy and that is not everyones cup of tea!

I recommend the books that make me sound the smartest! Haha kidding, sort of. But I usually don't mention any fantasy or sci-fi books (which I love), because most people aren't into that stuff...

@delight: Yes, it's just as beautifully written. Kite Runner is probably still my favorite because the story was so compelling for me, but if you love his other books, I think you'll really enjoy And the Mountains Echoed.

I recommend authors usually....Jim Harrison, Charles de Lint, Margaret Atwood. Depends on genre though, too.
Growing up, "Beauty" by Robin McKinley was my all-time favorite. It's a fantasy re-telling of Beauty and the Beast.
I re-read a lot of books for comfort. Some non-fiction Christian ones, but also stories of strong women making life changing choices. My favorite of those is "The Virgin Blue" by Tracy Chevalier.

Personally I love "chick lit" (although I abhor the term) so recommend:
Anything by Marian Keyes (although the Walsh Sister stories are my favorite)
Anything by liane Moriarty
Anything by Maeve Binchy (favorite is Circle of Friends...much better than the movie)

I'm a heavy book reader of YA and Fiction stuff. Reading is my escape so I tend to not read non-fiction stuff unless someone highly recommends it.
I also recommend books based upon what the other likes or is in the mood for. Apart from what others have listed, I recommend Bright Side and Archer's Voice a lot.

I read mostly non-fiction, although I did read a fiction book this past December.
I mostly recommend Bill Bryson, he writes the kinds of books that you can pick up after a brief hiatus and still get through.
I also recommend Far From the Tree. It was suggested to me and I really think any person, it doesn't have to be a parent, could get something out of it.

The Book Thief is also a go-to recommendation. And, of course, Harry Potter. I really enjoyed Room, as well.

@mrbee: I just had a conversation with my moms group about books. Most of them were reading things like Me before you and all the other books by her and I was reading Miss Perrigrines home for peculiar children. I just kind of laugh it off. I am a nerd. I like science fiction and fantasy books. so when the topic comes up those are the books I recommend.
