I could not live without my boppy (or at least some kind of nursing pillow). It wasn't until she was like 6 months plus that I could nurse on the couch without a boppy.

You can get covers really cheap. I also got a waterproof cover to go on the pillow for "leaks". Maybe get a waterproof cover plus 2-3 decorative covers to make washing easier?

I have a My Brest Friend pillow and a boppy that was gifted to us. I find that I use the boppy a lot more now that DS is older (5.5mos) and is sitting on the floor. I found the MBF pillow to be much easier to use while BF and I still use it most of the time when I'm home.

@katiew92081: If this is your second one, a boppy could also be really helpful to help with tummy time and sitting up. I know my friend didn't BF but uses the boppy all the time with her second child so he can have more floor play time with his older sister.

@katiew92081: She actually uses it for when her daughter is playing independently and she can set the baby down next to her daughter. He loves to just sit there and watch her play and with the boppy he can lay on it or sit up (and have a soft spot if he falls down).

I hated our boppy! Depends on the person, but I definitely didn't use it!

@Mrs. Jacks: Ditto. We used it twice and gave it away to one of our friends.

I really like my boppy, but you can live without it.

I could not live w/o the boppy. We even bring it when we travel and everyone who uses it to hold her or that we let give her a bottle comments on how much easier it makes things.

I had a My Breastfriend pillow. I loved the belt that it had--that made it comfortable. I wasn't sure that the Boppy would work as well because it didn't have one, although I think they might now.

I really liked my boppy, but you could use a regular pillow instead.

I EBFd for 6.5 months, and continued BFing until almost 19 months. I had a boppy and never used it even once. I hated nursing with any kind of pillows or prop, it seemed to make it more difficult for me,

you could live without it. just use a pillow. but i have used mine multiple times a day for 16 months straight and couldn't have lived without it.

IMHO you need SOME nursing pillow. Actually I have a boppy and the my brest friend. I prefer the my brest friend, but the boppy is good too. Without it, nursing is a lot more tiring.

You can totally do without it. I really didn't use mine until just recently . . . I can sit LO in it for a few minutes, and it is great for low back support in bed. But for nursing? Meh. A regular pillow worked much much better.

I couldn't live without MBF and my LO is 3 weeks. I can BF without it on the go, but I'm much happier with it! I found mine at a consignment shop for $14 and they had boppys as well. I just washed the cover and looked at the foam to make sure it was in good condition.

I think so, I've only used it a few times. I sometimes forget that I have it. It came in handy when we were traveling.
