My LO was the slowest eater ever. Bottles took 45+ minutes, and my pediatrician called him a "nip and napper" when he was born because he fell asleep in any style of eating (breast or bottle).

It does get better because they quit falling asleep while eating, but mine still is sloooow at the bottle - 20 minutes at 12 months to finish 8 oz. I just learned to settle in with my phone or a good TV show.

@Meridian: Just a thought--my LO had jaw issues at birth (which, along with her tongue and lip ties really made breastfeeding almost impossible--she just couldn't open her mouth wide enough to latch onto my gigantic breasts)--but I didn't realize until I took her to a cranial sacral therapist that she was also having trouble latching to the bottle. She was making a clicking sound and not latching on "deep" enough on the bottle too--the therapist pointed it out. LO was having to work really hard to even get milk from a bottle.

The therapy sessions helped, but it also helped when I officially gave up on BFing and resigned myself to EPing when she was 3 months--because then I bought the skinnier Dr. Brown bottles and LO had an easier time latching on. Before we were using "breasfeeding friendly" bottles with much wider tops.

Have you had your LOs latch onto the bottle evaluated?
