So DD is three and she has a plethora of books that are aimed at her, Ladybug Girl; Pinkalicious; Fancy Nancy etc
But, I can't think of any books like this that are aimed at boys... Can you?

Goodnight goodnight construction site (but i guess that's neutral), the Arthur series, where the wild things are... It's surprisingly difficult to think of boy-specific ones!

@winniebee I haven't heard of "That's Not My Tractor," I think we will be adding it to our collection.
@beaker I know! And it is interesting that boys are falling behind the girls. Of course they are! How do I expect my son to fall in love with reading like DD did, when there aren't series like Ladybug Girl, Fancy Nancy etc for boys. I can't even think of any interesting or strong male characters.
You would think there would be some sort of Cowboy series or something...

@MamaBehr: there are SO many books about trains, trucks, cars, etc. philemon sturges has some great books that are "boy" themed -- I Love Trains! (http://www.amazon.com/I-Love-Trains-Philemon-Sturges/dp/0064436675/ref=rec_dp_2) is a favorite around here, and there are similar titles: I Love Planes!, I Love Tools!, I Love Trucks! (the exclamation marks look so silly here!), that all feature a little boy narrator.
jon scieszka started a series especially for little boys to hook them into reading. the series is about "trucktown" (http://www.amazon.com/Welcome-Trucktown-Jon-Scieszkas/dp/1442412712/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1364354681&sr=1-4&keywords=jon+scieszka) and is kinda like "cars," but for trucks. Lil' CB LOOOOOOOVES these books.
depending on your son's interests, you could probably find books about his favorite subjects, too!
we also love the books about peter by ezra jack keats (the snowy day, peter's chair, etc.). and we also love the franklin books, too.
i think it's hard to think of overtly BOY books because so many of the girl books are pink and frilly, but boy books seem gender neutral.
hmm...wondering if i should do a blog post about this?

@Mrs. Cowgirl: YES! Do it, do it, do it! In case you needed some encouragement.
The boys in DD's preschool class are obsessed with dinosaur books. They also pore over any books about snakes, reptiles, the like. DD is completely not interested, but that makes me a little sad!

@Mrs. Cowgirl: I second the recommendation to find books on subjects that interest them! We read a lot about trains, airplanes, and moon missions around here. The nonfiction section is great for this type of reading. (I also like Ezra Jack Keats!)
As for boyish fiction, I like 'Lentil' by Robert McCloskey, 'The Little Airplane' and 'The Little Train' by Lois Lenski. Also, 'Harold and the Purple Crayon'! A number of Tomie DePaola's books feature male characters, too. I'm also a big Seuss fan. 'And To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street' is one of my favorites, and it features a boy.
There are plenty of series aimed at older boys--ahem, Harry Potter (!), The Hobbit, etc--so I'm not too concerned about LO getting left out of series books just because he's a boy. I think most of the books we have for preschoolers were actually mine, and with the exception of 'Angelina Ballerina' I don't find them exceptionally girly. And who am I kidding, I totally read 'Angelina' to LO once and a while! It's about following your dreams and hard work! That's pretty gender neutral, I think.

Two more because I can't resist: 'A Cricket in Times Square'. Get the audio version read by Tony Shaloub. It is GREAT!
And 'Winnie the Pooh'!

@MRS. COWGIRL @HONEYBEAR thank you so much!!! DS is only 1 right now, so he can't quite sit through anything intense yet, but I think it could be good to start stock piling authors and books for when he is (he currently loves Knuffle Bunny, I Want My Hat Back, and I Love You Through and Through, he makes me read them three times a day or more). But I just couldn't think of any "boy books."
And, Mrs, Cowboy, you should TOTALLY do a blog post about this...

@MamaBehr: Lois Lenski also wrote "Cowboy Small" and "Policeman Small," which are short board books. LO ate them up (not literally...) and still requests them at 2.5 years.
