@anonysquire: when are you due? Can you sign up for an Obama care plan for January? All of the new plans cover maternity.. It's great!

If your hubby's plan does not cover your pregnancy, I doubt it covers your breast pump.

@anonysquire: ahh I see.. I had to have a csection, so my pregnancy total was upwards of $50k..

I'm sure you could call your insurance and ask them. Maybe once you baby is here your ped can write you a scrip?

I would think it would. Just call and ask.

I would call and ask, but consider calling a couple of times to ask different people if the first one says no... I have found a general lack of knowledge when I've tried to contact my insurance company about this.

FYI, the way it works with my insurance co is that you have to purchase it through a durable medical equipment company, which will coordinate with the insurance co, so you can't just go to Target and then send them a receipt. The selection is limited, 1-3 options available at the companies I spoke to. And you can get coverage for a rental of a hospital grade pump if you have to be separated from your baby OR if your baby cannot breastfeed.

Pregnancy cannot be considered a preexisting condition, so I would check that out. According to the Department of Labor, " In addition, HIPAA prohibits plans from applying a preexisting condition exclusion to pregnancy, genetic information, and certain children."

My plan allows up to $150 of a pump to be covered, and we have to give a prescription to a medical equipment company, who will deliver it to our house. My midwife wrote me a prescription for a double electric, and I know the supply company nearest to us has the Medela PISA, which is what I am going to get, I think.
