ahh!! i am so dumb. i pump at work and took out 3 frozen bags yesterday from my work mini-fridge freezer so i wouldn't forget to bring them home and put them in the fridge part. well...i forgot them so now they are thawed! do i need to throw them out? i keep finding contradictory things on the internet. they look all separated and weird...but that is 12 oz--it will kill me to throw it out!

You cant re-freeze them but you can feed them to your LO today

You can feed to your LO today! My lactation consultant told me that thawed breastmilk is good for 24 hours!

Agree with PP. why do you freeze at work? That seems risky.
I kept in the fridge at work and froze when I got home (on Fridays) and fed the next day (mon to Thursday)

Agreed with some of the PP - thawed BM is good for 24 hours after it finishes thawing according to the guidelines I've read.

I'm still trying to figure out a good system and its not really working! I have a freezer stash at home. I pull the oldest and feed to LO for daycare. I add the most recent to the freezer. I guess I'll just feed it to him today at home and pump and add that to freezer?

Frozen milk must be used in 24 hours and can't be refrozen. Feed that to him today and freeze what you pump this evening.
I have a freezer stash and also pump at work. LO gets one bottle of fresh milk and one bottle of frozen milk a day (that way my frozen stash doesn't get too old and LO gets fresh milk too). When I pump at work, milk goes into the refrigerator. When I get home, I make one bottle of fresh milk for the following day and freeze the rest. Every night I take out frozen milk for one of LO's bottles the next day.
Make sense?

I'm also curious why you freeze at work. The milk has a lesser chance of being ruined if you wait to freeze when you get home.

I thought you couldn't freeze milk that has been sitting in the fridge for too long? I thought I read somewhere that milk needs to be frozen pretty soon after you pump.

@HabesBabe: It can wait a day or two in the fridge before going into the freezer. It's definitely safe to keep milk in the fridge that will be frozen later that night.

@lydg: my process was that on Monday she got frozen milk from the freezer (we set in the fridge on Sunday night and poured into bottles on Monday morning). Then, the milk I pumped at work on Monday would be the milk she took to daycare the next day. Then on Friday, I would freeze that milk. That way my "freezer stash" was always moving but I didn't have to worry about freezing/dethawing during the week.
