My DS is outgrowing his Gracco infant seat, so we've decided to just buy a convertible carseat. I ordered Britax Marathon, but I'm having second thoughts since it's considered to be one of the more toxic carsearts. My thing is this, well, it looks like most car seats at the convertible level are like this. What to do?

We have two Marathons and love them.

only one of the colors is considered to be among the highest toxicity, and Britax has promised to eliminate those toxins by the end of the summer. They continually test as among the safest car seats in the event of a crash. Id be more concerned with that. We have an Advocate 70 CS and a Marathon and LOVE them both.

i'm going to assume that you're referring to the healthystuff.org ratings of the toxins in carseats- if not, please correct me!
i think we can agree that there are toxins everywhere and that limiting exposure to them is best, but there are some instances where they devil we know is far more harmful than the devil we don't. statistically, we know the chance of your child being hurt or killed in a car crash is one that needs to be addressed because it is so high, but we can't quantify the risks of exposure to toxins in carseats, so i guess it's something everyone needs to weigh out for themselves. i'd rather see a child in the seat that keeps them safest in a crash, limiting exposure to potentially harmful toxins in the seat will come second for me.

We love our Marathons. Honestly, you'll never be able to avoid all chemicals. I'd be more concerned about getting a safe, comfy seat that you think will work best for your car and LO.

@LivsMama: What color is supposed to have the highest toxins?
I have a Boulevard 70 that I purchased last Thanksgiving. It is a great seat and I really like it and feel like I get a better install with the tether than we do in the Graco convertible we bought for DH's car. It is harder to install when we have to switch it to another vehicle, but that isn't very often. DS seems comfortable in it.

Toxins in carseats? I need to do more research...
We have a Marathon for Wagon Jr. and we love it. We have two hand-me-downs (a Boulevard and a Roundabout), and we've been using them in the grandparents' car and we love them too.

We have a Britax Marathon and have been very happy with it. We also recently got a Diono Radian RXT for my eldest. It's awesome... currently has the highest rear-facing limit which is very important to me.

We have two Britax Boulevards and love them! We kept our older daughter rear facing until 2.5 years in one, no prob. When our little lady is big enough she will also be in them too!

@Mrs. Jacks: said. They dont do studies on crib mattresses, and they contain the same checmicals and (hopefully) are in the crib for MANY more hours a day than they are the car seat. @mrs. bird: has a great link in one of her posts by The Car Seat Lady. Read that as well -
We have the Britax Marathon and love it! I'm planning on getting another one soon.
