Haha, Wagon Sr. is similarly shaped! on the short side, broad shoulders, big arms, stocky. He can NOT wear things from j. crew, BR, etc. All of his button downs are from department stores. I usually buy them from TJ Maxx. We even buy "slim fit" (or some call it "modern fit") so that they're not crazy baggy in the waist, but they still fit great... just not from those stores that are made for super tiny men! I can't tell you how many gifts we've had to return from well-meaning gift givers... he just doesn't fit into them!! His brother (who is actually similarly shaped as well!) bought him a slim fit button down from BR and it was SKIN TIGHT on him. He looked like... well, you can imagine.

Also, the ones with specific sizes for neck and arm length will be a definite fit no matter what brand they are, which is nice. He is a 16 32/33.

Some brands are: Claiborne, Kenneth Cole, Nautica, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Geoffrey Beene.

I would get him clothes that fit right in the shoulders and chest and find a local tailor to give him the slim fit everywhere else.

@LindsayInNY: bahahahahahah DH would love you for asking this question. all his pants are either too big in the waist, or too tight in the crotch area.

This is my husband's build - and yes, "slim fits" by and large will.not.work. Unfortunately, slim fit is also the trendy men's cut, so many places are cutting slim without advertising it as a slim cut. Calvin Klein and Banana Republic do this. A ton of suit jackets do this too. Anyways.....

Try Brooks Brothers. My husband nearly exclusively shops as BB. They also offer in-house tailoring, which is nice too. They measure by the neck and also things, so it's not just like "medium", "large" etc.

@mrs. bird: Yeah, DH will not do pleats =/ Some brands are a bit roomier in the crotch, luckily!

For my husband (very similar build) usually Kohl's has decent fitting button ups.

My SIL used to work for Tom James- their clothes are AWESOME!! Definitely not inexpensive, but super high quality and they look so, so good on him! Most are custom tailored, but even the stock clothes fit well. He still wears their polos and button ups several years later, and they have held up very well. Worth the money!
