What's a reasonable monthly amount to budget for kids clothing (per kid)?
ETA: shoot, too late to add a poll. $25? $50? $75?

Hmm, I typically buy one item at Target every month and buy stuff at Old Navy/Carter's every few months!

i think having 4 seasons makes a big difference. winter gear costs a lot and they outgrow it so fast!

@autumnlove: DS outgrew all of his 0-3 month and 3 month clothing. Even 3-6 month is too small depending on the brand. I spent $75 on some new clothes for him, and I feel like that was a lot!

@Freckles: my girls are older so I don't have to buy a lot at one time. $75 sounds pretty good for decent sized haul!

I allocate $20 a week for anything she needs. So diapers/clothes/toys.
I am not very good at sticking to it since I overbuy and did a few big orders from GAP which didn't come out of that but I am getting better.

I usually don't go monthly, more by season. I typically do two or three larger shopping sessions around fall and spring/summer. I try to keep it less than $100-$150 each time by shopping craigslist, once upon a child and the 40% off gap sales.
I guess it comes out to $25 a month?

I budget $100 month for LO's necessities. So that includes diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, etc. I'm guessing $50-60 of that goes towards clothes and shoes. Some months I blow through it quickly (like when she outgrows her shoes especially) and some months I roll a lot of it over.

I try to ask for clothes that I know we will need for gifts! Our families always ask what she needs to I tell them size and seasons it helps that C's bday is july so we can break it up.
The shoes are less predictable though.

$100 every other month on clothes is what I budget but that doesn't include the few times a year I have to make big purchases (winter coats, boots, rain boots, etc.).

I don't really have a budget for this. Some months we spend nothing, and then the next we decide to go crazy and buy several months worth. Basically if I see it and Zuma needs it I buy it. Not anything crazy though.

@Mrs. Bee: Winter gear is ridiculously expensive - even if it's all on sale! The daycares around us all require a separate set of everything. I spend more on the ones she uses at daycare since she's out everyday.
@Freckles: For all her other clothes, I shop sales and hoard larger sizes

I probably spend about $50-100 every few months, mainly online. Her birthday is in May, so she usually gets clothes for that, and then 7 months later its Christmas and clothes again. I tend to spend on t-shirts/leggings/comfy clothes as they get worn through laundry/use. I try not to buy any cute fancy dresses anymore as she has outgrown them by the time we have a special event.

I don't stick to a specific budget, but I do buy a size or two bigger so that my LOs can get more wear out of things. For example, last year I bought DS's winter boots and coat one size too big and they still fit this year. For both, I do a lot of sleeve and leg rolling and let them grow into things. Other than that, I almost exclusively shop sales.

I budget by season, I'll allocate approximately $125 for clothing, $50-75 for shoes. Then for winter gear, I buy one coat, one snowbib and one pair of boots. The coat and snow bib I can get two years out of, but the boots I buy true to size because they keep them on during school hours and I don't want him clunking around.
Sounds like a lot, but that includes underwears, socks, pajamas, etc. My son wears pretty basic clothes as well. His "uniform" in winter is a long sleeved tee, a fleece vest and a pair of either sweatpants or fleece lined chinos. Summer is a tee/polo with elastic waist shorts. Two pairs of sneakers per year, more or less.

I usually buy most stuff online from gap during sales. I bought his fall stuff for around $100 in September. I spent another $70 ish around Christmas for some cute outfits and bigger sized pants. I just spent $40 more some warmer clothes (it will be cold here for a while!) in the next size up because he's growing out of 6-12.
Probably works out to about $50-100 a month. If I see something while we are out that he needs I'll get it, but we don't have a lot of options in my town for shopping.

I do what some previous posters have said.. Seasonal shopping for LO. About $150-200 per season and I always wait for the big sales and buy it all at once. I might buy something here and there if he needs a certain outfit or I find a really good deal on something I love. But that's where we're at most of the time. DS is 21 months and we just did a fall/winter hall at carters and H&m and spent sbout $195 but that's because I had to also get two jackets

It really depends! So far I've never spent much on DD since we had tons of hand me downs so I just buy a few items here and there to supplement. I'd think budgeting for season is best too, and depends if you like to buy all new, or some used, etc.

I usually do seasonal shopping and it's about 150/per girl with shoes. I shop the sales, Old navy/Carter's/Target and then I do holiday clothes separately.

i buy seasonally. since its socal, there are really only 2 seasons - "winter" and summer. so usually in the fall i stock up on winter clothes. i think about $100-150/kid. then in the spring i stock up on summer clothes and i think it ends up about the same $100-150/kid. i do buy random things here and there like shoes or target clothes.

I don't have a monthly budget I buy as needed when she grows out of stuff. Every time I have to switch out her wardrobe I aim to spend no more than $100 total. Usually I go to the resale shop first and buy what I can. Then I go to carters with whatever sale/coupons and get the rest. She does not have an extensive wardrobe but when she grows out of things so fast I am just not going to spend more.

I consign all of our old things locally, shop with my consignment store credit first for LO and me, and then supplement with new clothes for anything else we need. I don't really have a set budget, and we have more clothes for LO than we really need - but I hate laundry, and I like to have multiple options since our weather varies so much in New England
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
I only shop when LO is starting to outgrow her clothes or if she needs certain things for the season. I don't have a particular budget - I just limit myself to what she really needs and try to find the best deals. I often buy secondhand. We are lucky that we are often gifted clothes for her so I can mix the cute stuff we are gifted in with basics I get.

I know this is an older thread and I've already responded, but I've just done my son's shopping for the school year and this is what we spent:
2 pairs of athletic sneakers: $50 total (from Bobs, with coupon and on sale)
1 pair boots: $65 (from Amazon)
3 pairs elastic waist chino pants, 1 pair sweatpants, 5 long sleeve tees, 1 pack underwear, 2 packs socks, 3 sets pajamas: $140 (from Carters, doorbuster sale plus 20% off coupon)
2 fleece vests: $20 (Lands End end of season clearance)
Grand Total:$275
Winter coat is from last year, snow bib from last year, I should get one more year out of them.
I might replace some of the long sleeve tees later in the year if they begin to look worn after washings, but more or less, this is it until spring.
