i dunno.... why in the world would you put the bumbo in an elevated area? like on a table? while i sympathize with the parents and wouldn't want my kids hurt using products, it's sorta like suing mcdonalds for burning yourself with hot coffee.

I sheepishly admit that I used to put LO in the bumbo on our kitchen counter while I was putting away groceries or something. But she started arching her and trying to escape so I stopped. I've never EVER left her alone on an elevated area but I guess it *IS* pretty dumb of me...

well from the article it says there have been injuries even when the bumbo was placed on the ground? but I assumed those injuries wouldnt be as bad. I was on the bumbo site earlier today and there is a large red warning that says do not place bumbo on an elevated surface. They do sell a special type of "table" for the bumbo that can convert it into some type of highchair.
I dont know if this is harsh of me but i think the parents were wrong to place the bumbo on high surface.

I used to put my LO in her Bebe pod on our dining table when I first started feeding her. Never on the edge so she could fall backwards though. I took a video of her eating on our table and my parents had a cowabunga. Told me to secure it to a chair lest she fall and get seriously hurt.
Thankfully we never had an accident.

@rubies - at least 1. you were with your kid. 2. you knew when to stop. 3. you're not suing bumbo for something you should have been aware of.

@tequiero21: Aw, thanks! I seriously feel like crying because of how stupid it is. I would think, though, that if LO was injured because of something stupid *I* did, I would feel too embarassed and scared to even think of suing!

@Rubies: I have put my LO on the counter in the bumbo as well. I am always there supervising. She's only 2.5 months so she's not throwing her weight around a ton, but I would feel horrible if something happened. I think I'll keep it on the floor now though

I put ours on the coffee table. But I literally sit there with my hands on it the whole entire time because I'm so paranoid.
Doesn't matter now anyway because her legs are too chubby to fit in it.

Our Bebepod can be secured to a chair and then it's got straps to secure the kid into it. We do a lot of crap that people tell us not to but honestly I would think that the vast majority of us are smart enough to know when to stop.

It might seem stupid but I think A LOT of people do it. I used to put my daughter in her bouncer on the table every day, too. She was always strapped in and I would sit in front of her. I'd sing her songs, read her stories, etc. But of course if she fell, it would be no one's fault but my own!

I know Consumer Reports was complaining about this too-- how there was a recall, but nothing was changed except the addition of a warning sticker.
I think it's common sense and you don't have anyone to blame but yourself if you decide to leave your kid unattended on an elevated area.

I can't even leave Baby Y alone in it on the floor. He is able to arch his back and flip it backward. We never used it much, and now, even less!

I never used one. It seemed like a waste of $40 since they can't use it that long and we had a bouncer. I would never use it on an elevated surface, but that's because I wouldn't trust myself not to turn my attention for a second. I kept the bouncer on the floor and got down to his level to play with him.
I can't judge anyone for putting the bumbo on a table though - I let DS sleep in his carseat.unbuckled when he was sick. I couldn't buckle him without waking him up and we were all sleep deprived. I put blankets down, but found him asleep, but upside down with his legs hanging over the edge (his face where his butt should be) in the middle of the night. I couldn't believe it. I felt awful.
