Got this message from our dog sitter. She said she has a friend who really loves our dog (she's allowed to take the dog places when she is watching her) and could she (our sitter) borrow our dog and go visit the friend. We think this is a little weird, should we?

Olive loves loves loves animals, and so I frequently wish we could have a visit from someone with a dog!

Weird, yes. But I guess since it's someone you already trust with the dog, not a big deal? If your dog enjoys going to see people, I'd let her do it. I might ask for a little more information though, like is she pretending it's hers or anything really weird.

I think that is weird... I would maybe "lend" my dog to a close friend if they wanted to spend the day with him, but I wouldn't lend him to our dog sitter's random friend.

unusual, yes, but since it's a trusted dog sitter and someone the dog has met before, i would consider it. although i'd probably try to plan it for sometime i'd be out anyway, because otherwise i'd miss my (fur)babies!

ETA: but it's a personal decision, so if it feels kinda weird, don't do it!

I think it's unusual, but sweet. I would let my dog go with a friend. He'd probably love it.

@mrbee: I reread my original post and tried to clean up the language so it made more sense. Our dogsitter would take the dog to visit the friend and stay with her.

Visit at the friend's place with sitter - sure. Stay/keep for awhile - no.

hmm seems kind of random but my dog walker is kind of random like this so I guess I would be okay with it... as long as my fur baby wasn't gone too long.

In college before I had my dog I had free access to my friend's dog. I loved it! She knew my truck and would start freaking out when she heard me coming and almost bust down the door. I took her for hikes. I also would lend out my dog to others. She went to parties, on hikes, joy rides... you name it. It was awesome! I worked at a kennel and was allowed to borrow my favorite dog anytime
We went swimming, hiking, camping, we would hug. It was awesome.

It's a little weird... But I'd let her! As long as you trust her and I'm sure your dog would love some extra attention.

I believe very strongly in the therapeutic benefits of furbabies. So if I trusted my sitter? Sure...

Oh I would so want to borrow that dog. It's a little odd but I'd totally let someone borrow our dog in the hopes that the dog would get a little stimulation/exercise out of it.

At first I thought it was a bit odd but on second thought maybe not so much. One of the reasons we got our second dog was because my Dad was battling cancer. Maybe her friend needs a pick me up?

@MrsH: I had the same thought, our dog is fabulous with people who need an extra snuggle so maybe the friend is having a rough time? I would probably say yes but my dog loves going places and is high energy so it is a win win here.

@purrpletulips: I think it's kind of sweet. Is your dog a Newf? My cousin has one and I love him. If I didn't think my English bulldog would be a pest to him I would love to borrow him, so I get it

I read this and thought, initially, that I didn't see what was weird about it.... but then I imagined that our dog sitter (their groomer who also has a boarding facility) asked the same thing about our dogs and I realised just how bizarre it must have sounded to you when she asked. I would be a bit thrown, too! I was so weirded out when we went to collect our dogs after they had been boarded with the groomer for the first time and she told us that she had taken them home and let them sleep in the bed with her!! Whaaaat?! But then I thought that, actually, that would have been nicer for them so who am I to argue! Ultimately, I'd let the dog go and have fun with your sitter!

We ultimately decided to let our sitter borrow our dog, DH's only stipulation is that he wants it to be during a time when we wouldn't normally be home (he is utterly lost when our dog isn't in the house and we are). We are going out of town for a day this weekend and normally Griffin would be fine by herself but have offered that as an option because we know that she'd be happier visiting then sitting at home alone with the cat
We went swimming, hiking, camping, we would hug. It was awesome.
