We took The girls to a nickel and dime shop today and dd picked out a kite. We walked down to an open field to fly it. Epic fail! Or the wind wasn't strong enough. I'll go with the latter.
Can you fly a kite? Any good tips?

Step on- get a good kite
Those plastic ones that are a dollar aren't weighted right and are nearly impossible to fly.

I just bought one for our upcoming vacation, not sure how it's going to go, it's not super expensive, but hoping we can pull it along at the beach one night.

Yep I can - DS can too! You def need lots of wind!!! We have our best kite flying in April (tends to be very windy) or at the beach by the ocean

We bought a $3 kite on a whim when we were on vacation and we were able to fly it. You need enough wind and space.

I think you need a consistent wind. As in blowing the same direction and not constantly changing direction. That's why it's so easy at the beach. We go fly our semi-cheap butterfly one in a nearby field, and we've noticed it's almost impossible when the wind keeps changing direction. I'm dying for a Haptic Lab ship kite since we'll be at the beach often this summer.

Yeah, it's not that hard. You just need wind and need to go with the wind. Kites fly great at the beach.

I think I probably could. Though the wind has been a little TOO strong the last couple times I tried at the beach and I was afraid the kite would end up dive-bombing and spearing someone So my advice would be to fly during a windy but not super windy day
