I'm ordering new dining room furniture today, and am a newbie at buying "real" furniture. Is it possible to negotiate at all?
If it helps I am buying it at a Jordan's Furniture, a large New England chain store.

@HappyBaker: Definitely!!! I negotiated all of our furniture prices. It helps to know exactly what you want and what you're willing to pay and being prepared to walk if they price doesn't meet your needs.

Depends on the store but def possible. Easier to get extras (free shipping, warranty, etc) than straight cash off.

Absolutely! We were buying a ton of stuff once at a store and made sure the sales person gave us a good discount!

@snowjewelz: @yellowbird: Any tips on what to say? I am AWFUL at this stuff / have never done it before! I found the same exact table and similar chairs by the same manufacturer on Walmart.com and its $250 cheaper than the furniture store, I was going to bring the print out with me?

@HappyBaker: Definitely do that! I think when we went in we just said up front that we're looking to buy a bunch of furniture and want to work with you to for a "package" or something. We also went when there was a sale going on. Thankfully the salesman gave us a discount that we were happy with and threw in some stuff at the end so we didn't have to negotiate too much more.
