We just got Charlie a guitar and I'm realizing that I have no idea how to play a guitar! I can tune it and that's about it. World's least thought through plan, ever?
Trying to learn a little guitar now from YouTube, so I have something to teach him! Otherwise, this horrific strumming that he's making could be as good as it gets!

Nooope. My dad tried to teach me but my left-handedness confused him so it didn't last long. hahaha

Not really. I bought one off Craigslist a few years ago and tried to teach myself, gained some headway, thought about lessons but couldn't afford it, the guitar sat around and gathered dust and I finally sold it last year

I have a guitar and can play it, but my level is very basic and I have forgotten many of my chords. Not to mention that I wimp out once my fingers start hurting and am too vain to develop calluses! I would love either of my kids to play though. It's such a great instrument and skill. Portable, versatile... I think I will try to get one of them hooked! Good luck to Charlie!

@mrbee: weren't you trained in classical piano? I picked up the guitar fairly easily since I was already trained in another instrument.

@sunny: It was hard today b/c I was trying to learn the guitar on YouTube and both kids were fighting to get in my lap and strum the strings haha!

No! But DH got me one for my birthday (when DD was 1 month old) so needless to say I haven't had the time to learn yet. Hopefully next year

I was really gung ho my freshman year of college! My dorm offered free first lessons so I convinced my parents to buy me a guitar... I think I tried 3 or 4 lessons before I realized it was too hard for me, even with 12 years of violin background. My left index finger is shorter and weaker than average due to a childhood accident, so I couldn't do all the bar notes.
But my guitar was pretty and I named her Betty.

I play, but nothing too fancy. I just picked up our guitar this week after many months (years?) of not playing because I was sick and cooped up inside and bored with our usual books/songs. I played pretty easy songs like American Pie, Lean On Me and What's Up by 4 Non Blondes for LO and he seemed to like it, so my goal is to keep learning more songs and playing for him every day. Music classes are expensive so I'm going to try and DIY it!

Kinda! I know most chords, and can make things up to cover for chords I don't quite know. I don't really do any picking though, just chords
I taught myself while I was in high school using ultimate guitar

Some. I'm not as good as DH or my mom, but I can play songs with basic cords. Just learn C, D, G, A, Em, & F and you'll have an awesome start!
