My BIL (my sisters husband) was just diagnosed with AML, a form of Leukemia. I'd like to put together some things for him while he is in the hospital, it looks like he'll be there for 1 month minimum. I've already gotten some unscented lotion and was thinking of a soft knit hat. Maybe a zip up hoodie? Any other comfort type items that I'm missing? There seems to be a lot of ideas for women but not as many for men.

A nice pillowcase perhaps, and a fluffy blanket. Hospitals can be cold. Also, warm and cozy socks! If my feet are cold, I'm cold.

Comfy socks, magazines based on his interest, framed photos or a photobook of loved ones, favorite dvds, easy to play games (cards, board games) that don't require much space, favorite snacks, chap stick, a really nice and soft warm blanket.

Does he have an iPhone or iPad? Maybe an itunes gift certificate so he can download a tv show or game? Maybe a nice travel water bottle so he doesn't have to drink out of plastic hospital cups.

@erinbaderin: Love your ideas of an iTunes gift card and a water bottle. One that keeps cold/hot for 24 hours and doesn't sweat would be great. Like a hydroflask or yeti cup!
Along the lines of iTunes, maybe a subscription to Netflix or Hulu if he enjoys watching tv? And maybe load him up on his favorite snacks (given he's permitted to eat them) or gift cards to some of his favorite delivery places so he's not always eating hospital food.

Slippers might be a better option than socks. Some hospitals will only let you use their socks with the non-slip stuff on the bottom to lessen your fall risk.
You might check to with you sister to see if they'll be requiring him to wear a gown.
If so, nice plush flannel pajama bottoms might be nice. If he doesn't have to wear the gown, pajamas with a button down top make it easier to get to port/monitors. Or a soft robe he can wear over the hospital gown.
