@2PeasinaPod: Ooh that's good to hear that you love the Pathfinder. We think that's going to be our next car. I have a Toyota Venza, but we'd really like to get something that's a 7 passenger.

We have a Jeep and a Prius plug in and I can't tell you how much we love our Prius and cannot WAIT to dump this money pit Jeep (DH brought it into the marriage so not my choice!). The plugin part was just so that we got a $1800 cash rebate from our state and an HOV lane sticker - it's basically a Prius with a tiny bit better mileage. The gas savings is unreal and the backseat has lots of room and DS' car seat fits with no issue and it has good trunk space. We may want a Prius V or maybe bite the minivan bullet next!

@ShootingStar: I was actually surprised at how much DH preferred it over a Toyota Highlander. We have a 2003 Highlander, and his family has always bought Toyotas, but when we went to look at the new ones, we didn't like that the interior looked exactly like his 2003. If we're spending that much money on a car, I want it to be upgraded and not look cheap! We got way more for our money with the Pathfinder, and they were offering some decent discounts since we got it over Memorial Day weekend. Couldn't be happier with it!

@2PeasinaPod: That's funny, our other top option is the Highlander, haha. But DH has a Nissan Leaf with the all around camera and he thinks I'll love it in the Pathfinder. I currently find my Venza kind of hard to park. We're also thinking that maybe we can make a deal with the dealership because we'd buy out the lease on his car, plus a new Pathfinder. Do you have the 3rd row? If so, do you like it? Our plan is if we have my parents visiting or we visit them, that we'd temporarily put the carseat back there.
Sorry for the threadjack!

@2PeasinaPod: @ShootingStar: the pathfinder is my dream car. My rouge is a year old lease so when that's up I hope we can afford a pathfinder.

Yes! Sorry for the threadjack!!
@ShootingStar: We do have the 3rd row, but have only used it once so far when we were going somewhere with my niece and nephew in tow. We usually keep it down, and the amount of cargo space is awesome. We got the SL, which is more than enough on the upgrade scale for us, but it didn't come with the Navigation. That was fine with us since we use our phones anyway. But loved that the heated front and 2nd row leather seats, power lift gate, remote push button start, and all around camera came standard with the SL. If you took out our trade, we got it for $32K, which we were really surprised about given the MSRP. I think it was worth it to get it over a holiday weekend! The Highlander - they weren't willing to budge on price. That was our other big turnoff.
@ladybee: I hope you can get one! It was so surprising to us how much we liked it!

I have a 2013 CRV and I love it! I have seen commercials for the HRV. Though, I like the trunk space on my CRV. I did buy my CRV before a 7 state (& 2 week) road trip so we did want something larger, but not gas guzzling like a full size SUV. Now, that we are pregnant with twins. Road trips might be tough with two kids and two dogs but I'm hoping that I can take advantage of roof top or hitch mounted storage. I really like that my CRV is a 4-cylinder with just enough space and power for our family. (Though, DH would complain that there is not enough power, but he has a truck and the CRV is my car.)
ETA: I do prefer mid sized cars. I had an accord before and CRV actually feels smaller (maybe because of the backup camera) but at the same time bigger. I don't like driving mini vans and larger SUVs because they feel too big. Oh, does the HRV have an AWD option. I have it on my CRV and it's great knowing I have it when it snows here.
Oh, definitely look into the remote start feature, if they offer it. It's a little over $1k to have it installed but I love it. Love not having to get into a hot or cold car. Definitely will help cool the car before you bring the kids out. I've used it to keep the car cool on hot days and I want to keep my dogs in AC. I know people think I'm a horrible dog owner leaving my dogs in the car but they have AC. I've only done this once while on a weekend road trip. We did use it to keep the car heated while our dogs were inside and we grabbed a quick bite to eat while it was snowing outside. (We were on that 7 state road trip so we had to do something with our dog.) Totally worth the money for us.

@bluestriped bee: I love the CRV too, but haven't looked at them too closely since the HRV is better on the pocket and still a big upgrade size-wise from my '05 Corolla

@ShootingStar: Ooh! I forgot to add that the 3rd row, while not super spacious (I don't know many that are in a mid-size SUV) fit me perfectly. Now...I'm not a tall person...only 5'1", but it's great to put the LOs back there and the adults in the 2nd row if you're traveling with 7.

@2PeasinaPod: That's the plan . We'll put the kid(s) in the last row if we have 7, but most of the time that row would stay down. I'm fairly tall at 5'7, so I don't plan to sit back there . But we'd love to be able to take one car when we're with my parents. And we really need more space already and we hope to get pregnant with #2 soon.

I just traded in my old Impreza and got a Crosstrek (both Subarus) - I love it! It's the right height, not too big, all wheel drive, incredible safety ratings, hatchback, etc.
I'm hooked on Subaru ever since my good friend got in a horrific wreck and walked out with only a scratch. If he was in a less sturdy car I think he would have died! Plus I love not worrying about slipping around in bad weather.

Hmm... Turns out the 2015 Rogue has some very good promotions right - anyone drive and care to share your thoughts?

@runnerd: My mom just got one but I haven't driven it it. My dad has an older one. I still like my CRV. You should test drive it and see if you like it. Also compare the specs oF the HRV and the Rouge on cars.com.

@runnerd: I drove one in January. I rented it for a couple of days to take my dad to/from surgery, so I put about 120 miles on it. It is a nice ride in my opinion, it seemed roomy, had good pickup, and the mileage seemed decent. Nissan has the SnugKids program, where they publish guides on their website detailing which seats fit their cars the best, and even where you should not place seats in some models (in some, no car seats in outboard third row seats). It was really helpful for our Versa when we were car seat shopping.

I love love love my outback! I hate never ever having to worry about driving conditions. Plenty of trunk space and we have two car seats convertibles in back.

I've had a Prius for the past two years and I love it. When I got it I wasn't 100% in love with the style and the fact that at the time where I lived it seemed that ever other car was a Prius - but now I can't imagine driving anything else as a daily driver. The gas mileage is great, it's quiet and drives well. I like that mine has hands free Bluetooth for my phone as well as a sunroof. We also don't have any trouble fitting our car seat rear facing in the center seat.
For reference my previous car was a civic and we also have a Toyota 4runner which DH drives and we use that when we need more space for camping or travel.

@runnerd: So, funny story. On Wednesday we found out that there was a shipping delay and our 2016 Fit (which we were supposed to pick up on Friday) wasn't going to arrive until late September. DH and I decided we really didn't want to wait another month, so we ended up buying a 2016 HR-V EX-L today! It's super cute and handles very nicely - smoother and sportier than our CR-V. Has lots of fun bells and whistles, too! It was hard to find the one we wanted, though - ended up driving 90 minutes away! Are you any closer to a decision?

I just want to say how much I love my Subaru Forester. Love love love it. We drove a rogue last year as a rental while on vacation and it was fairly nice, but I thought the blind spot with the side windows was bigger than with my car, which was annoying.

@ms.line: wow!! I can't believe we got HR-V that easy! They have been so hard to get hands on around here!! We ended up getting to test drive last week and I loved it as much as ever!!!! But we really didn't want a loan as big as it would take to get the EX model, so we put deposit on the LX. So we had a week to think about things, and suddenly it also seems like the car dealer is having a hard time finding the color we want. So we ended up going to look at Civics because the deals were really good, and found the EX trim Civic for $2k less than the HR-V LX and decided we got so much more for our money that route. Now the plan is once we pay it off in a few years I get HR-V when they aren't such hot ticket items and get all the bells and whistles I'm still jealous of your EX-L though

@runnerd: Nice - the Civic is a great car, too! I really don't think you can go wrong with a Honda. It wasn't easy for us to find an HR-V, either - we called every local dealer that listed inventory online, but they all said their HR-Vs had sold immediately. We finally found one - in the color and trim we wanted! (it was a "sign" ) - at a dealer about 90 minutes away from us. We put a deposit down immediately and went to pick it up a couple days later. The saleguy said he had to "hide" it on the lot so people wouldn't try to test drive it, because it's so popular. The whole thing was a pain, and we definitely considered just going for a Civic!
