LO is 11 months old and we are still using the infant carseat. He is on the small side (~20lbs and ~28 inches) but we are thinking that he might be comfier in a bigger seat. On one hand, I love the convenience of the infant carseat but I also wonder if it's time to make the switch.
When did you make the switch (if you started off with an infant carseat)?

We switched at 6 months, but DS is very tall. I was worried to lose the convenience too, but surprisingly, I don't really mind at all.

We switched at 5 months because LO was so heavy that it was uncomfortable for us to keep using the infant seat. I do miss the convenience at times, especially when she's asleep and we get home. I hate waking her up to go inside, whereas before I could just pick up the whole seat.

We switched just before 8 months because he would scream bloody murder every time we put him in the infant seat. Plus, he was getting too heavy for me. Sometimes I miss that we can't carry him in if he's sleeping, but for the most part, I think we're all much happier in the convertibles!

We made the switch around 10 months to the Britax Marathon from the Chico Keyfit. DD hated being in the bucket-like seat and preferred to sit straighter. She loves her new seat.

6 months. Even at that age he seemed much happier in the convertible car seat because his line of sight in the car was better and {I think} he was more comfortable in it.
The only downside since the transition is that he can't continue to sleep when we get home.

@Periwinkle: yes - very happy! The guy at Buy Buy Baby said it was the highest rated and best selling.

@Periwinkle: we switched around 7.5 months because he would scream the minute we put him in the seat until we took him out. We also have a Marathon and he LOVES it - he falls asleep usually within minutes with no crying. I kind of wish we'd switched earlier!

Thanks for the thoughts on the Marathon. It is in our list of contenders.
I am trying to figure out what we do about the two cars... if you have more than one car, did you buy two seats, or just trade it from one car to the other? If you have two seats, did you buy the same one for both cars?

We switched at 8 months. We have the same seat in each car since we share drop off and pick up daily.

@Periwinkle: The two seat conundrum was another downside of the transition. We opted for two seats because we're lazy.
After lots of research we went with a Recaro for my car and a Marathon for DH's. They're both great, but we prefer the Recaro.

@shinymama: Thanks for the recommendations! I feel like we will probably do best by sucking it up and getting two car seats (we also share drop off and pick up some days).

Following! DD is almost 10 months and we are planning to look at convertible car seats this weekend. I love the convenience of our infant car seat too but it sounds like everyone is happier they made the switch. Good to know!

@Periwinkle: Good luck! We share drop off/pick up and I also didn't want to share because I didn't want to worry about it being properly secured every single time. {My mom helps out and she got her own car seat as well.}

We switched about 8 months b/c I was ready & we love our Combi, but know we'll have to upgrade before P is ready to ff. I've heard the same issue with all Britax convertibles as well... they just don't have a long rf life span b/c of their short shells. 
(we're looking at either the Foonf or the Radian when P outgrows the 36" Combi limit)

We switched at 12 months. My friend is having a baby so I told her I would give her my car seat so when Amazon was having their appreciation sale I bought our Diono. The reason why we switched car seats was because DD ended up puking all over the infant one and I had to wash the cover right away. She is still sitting rear facing and is about 21lbs
