No idea what board to put this under.
I'm going to be confirmed in the church soon and was wondering if it is expected/appropriate to get my confirmation sponsor a gift? I have no idea or who to ask!

Not expected! I've been on both sides of this process. I made sure we took a picture with the priest together before the vigil and then I gave them a print with a nice thank you note. Congratulations!

I was in 8th grade when I got confirmed. I bought my sponsor (a cousin) a really nice picture frame, and added a picture of us from that day. I also took her out to lunch at her factories restaurant.

I don't think it's expected at all, but if there's something small (maybe a fave book of meditations or something?), I'm sure it would be a nice gesture. Congratulations! I'll be keeping you in my prayers as you prepare!

I got my sponsor a diamond candle, they were all the rage back in 2011 lol

It is not expected, but it's usually done at a younger age so that may be a factor.

Congrats!
I don't think it's expected but we both gave each other a gift.

If you want to do something, maybe an icon of your favorite/confirmation Saint? Or a small statue? It could serve as a reminder to pray for you.
My local catholic gift shop carries these and I like them. I've gotten several for nieces Nd nephews.
Congratulations!

I don't think a gift is expected but a small token of thanks would be nice. A framed picture of the day or I like the idea of a small gift related to your chosen Saint. Congrats!

thanks everyone! i will probably do a combination of lunch after the confirmation mass and/or picture of the event.
i'm so nervous! i hardly ever get nervous but i am. i am nearly double the age or more of many getting confirmed!!

@matador84: congrats! My mom got confirmed when I was 10. Don't be nervous!

I don't think it's expected, but I did give a gift to my sister (I was her sponsor) and I received a gift from my sponsor when I was confirmed. It was something small, but meaningful.

i'm also having a hard time narrowing it down. ha ha ha.

@matador84: St. Margaret. I think it was because I was 16 and it sounded cool she was a princess or something, haha. Who are you thinking?
pineapple / 12234 posts
@matador84: uh, I picked St. Ava because I was young and I liked the name.
Her feast day is in April too and April is my lucky month so I felt good about my choice LOL.

@matador84. Oh my gosh...this is weird. I am actually going to be confirmed as well this Easter! I've been contemplating the same thing about a gift too. My sponsor has already given me things, like a rosary and some little things, so I really want to gift her something! Let us know if or what you come up with!

Oh...and I picked St. Margaret of Cortana...but my sponsor (she's 80!) Keeps thinking i picked Margaret Mary. Both great saints so it's fine either way to me

@matador84: congrats! I picked Cecelia because she is the patron saint of music.

@matador84: I sure did--St. Hildegard! I got a raised eyebrow from the priest at the time (she was one of the not-officially-canonized saints), but then Pope Benedict named her a Doctor of the Church. Some other favorites: St. Therese of Lisieux, Zelie Martin (Therese's mother), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Monica, and St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein).
I understand being nervous. I was an adult when I converted. I think being older magnified the significance of it for me. And there was an uncomfortable feeling of being in the spotlight at Easter (while still being really new to everything!), although I am quite sure no one apart from my family was paying any attention to me at the Mass. In any event, that Easter vigil is at the top of my list of happiest memories and I love going every year. I'll be praying for you!

@honeybear: I completely agree about how different the significance seems as an adult versus a 16 year old! I am definitely putting a lot more thought into who I select as a saint because I understand the importance of the intercession. I also understand more about what confirmation entails by reading and understanding the catechesis behind it.
@jedeve: I have it narrowed down to St. Monica, St. Martha, Mary, maybe St. Catherine of Siena. Although I am also drawn to St. Maximilian Kolbe and Juan Diego--so I am praying for a sign! Ha ha.

Nothing is expected other than a thank you card. Congratulations! I picked St Frances Xavier Cabrini. I was a jerky teen and wanted the longest name possible. And I realize now that my sponsor had to cut out a LOT of letters for my banner. I should thank her again for that...lol

Not expected, but a card or something would be nice! Also, yes I have a confirmation saint, St. Felicity. Now, though, I don't think it's mandatory to choose a different name.
Congratulations!!

@matador84: I picked Cecilia because at the time, I was into music.
Maximilian Kolbe's relics are currently on tour if you're interested in him. https://www.olaprovince.org/index/2015/12/23/st-maximilian-kolbe-relic-2016-pilgrimage-2/
If I had to choose today, I might go with Zelie Martin. I'm fascinated with married saints (especially parents of saints!)

Congrats!
No gift expected. I agree with above replies that a framed photo may be nice. I chose St. Clare of Assisi. Mainly because I loved St. Francis
papaya / 10560 posts
@MaryM: married saints are definitely rare in the church! I might add zelie Martin to my list!!!
