my teeth never hurt post-fillings either...what kind of pain is it?

hmm, that might mean that your bite is still off...does it hurt more after you've eaten a meal? if yes, then maybe they haven't filed down your fillings enough, so all the force when you chew is being concentrated in those few spots instead of being evenly distributed across all your teeth. that actually did happen to me once, and once it was filed down, it was fine. thats all i can think of...either that, or they hit a nerve while drilling?

@creativemomma15: If your still having pain after a filling was done than there is still a problem. Sometimes that bacteria that causes the cavity can leak into the nerve. Removing the decay but leaving the nerve than sealing it with a filling will cause continued pain. You might need a root canal. If it just one tooth or is the pain coming from many teeth. Tap each tooth with the handle of a metal butter knife and see if the percussion causes more pain. Are you getting pain when you have something cold and hot or just cold? was the fillings you received white? It has been noted that white fillings can cause some sensitivity in the teeth after fillings. A tooth paste like sensodyne repair and protect every day will help with that. Last but not least your bite could still be off. Sometimes the fillings can be a little high and need to be taken down a bit. Its hard to tell how much the patient needs taken off the filling because they say it all feels the same when frozen. Patients often notice after freezing comes out. I work in Dentistry.

@creativemomma15: it really could depend on a number of things. Some people have super sensitive teeth, and some post operative sensitivity can be normal up to two months post filling. Especially if they were deep and you are sensitive to cold. If it's just pain on biting, your bite may be high still and that could be the issue.

If it's waking you up at night, throbbing constantly, etc you may have a bigger issue going on.

Is it a white filling by any chance? I've always had regular amalgam fillings, and no pain at all post filling. One time my dentist decided to do a white filling so it's less obvious, and it hurt for days afterward. I read up on it and this seems to be a common problem, like @MamaPhoenix: says. Or it could be that your bite is off or something... in that case you'd unfortunately need to go in to get the filling leveled a bit, but it's quick and doesn't hurt. Hopefully it's something simple like that!

I just had the bite on a crown fixed a year and a half after I got it. It was instant relief. I didn't think it was fixable, but it was so easy to fix. Tough Patton is the worst. Keep going back until it's better.

Also I get super tense post dental work and find getting a massage to be helpful with healing.
