My doctor is out of town, so I don’t know with these results really mean except for the nurse practitioner who interpreted them encourage me to contact a RE right away and not “waste” a cycle of clomid. I’m going to a specialist tomorrow, but anyone want to weigh in for now?

@LAZB: I am going to assume that the high FSH in particular is what made the nurse comment that you probably don’t want to waste a clomid cycle.
At my RE’s office they would not do a cycle of IUI or IVF with an FSH that high (above 10 or so) because your ovaries are unlikely to respond.
Have you been using fertility meds recently? Is this the first time you have had your CD 3 levels tested?

@mrswin: I had cd 3 levels tested before I got Pregnant with my second child, so about four years ago. I think my levels were a little elevated then. I haven’t used any fertility meds lately, but I have been taking vitex. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
We have two children at home, so we wouldn’t do any huge measures to have another baby, but we really want one or two more

@LAZB: I would have a chat with the doctor about the Vitebsk as Google tells me it can sometimes throw things way out of whack...

@LAZB: I am sorry you're upset and I am so sorry about potential bad news. My sister has been going through fertility treatments, and if there is one thing I have learned from watching/supporting her through it, is that you are always getting freaking bad/borderline bad/not sure if it's bad news and then having to WAIT to actually hear what it means. It's so cruel!

@LAZB: sounds promising that they haven’t changed. FSH of 16 is fairly high (above 10 is high) but since clomid has worked for you with a similar FSH then I wouldn’t worry about that. I don’t know the other hormone levels.

@travellingbee: it’s crazy to me that if it’s such a high number I have gotten pregnant quickly two times. I hope that I’m freaking out over nothing.

This is the exact reason though why I didn’t want to wait to start trying again. I just had a feeling that it might be more difficult. I know people think I’m nuts for wanting kids close together, but if not now, it might not happen

@LAZB: Well I had a high-ish FSH and a very very low AMH and still got pregnant with just Clomid and a trigger injection. And I actually got pregnant with my first on the first try with no assistance and those two miscarriages in between were with no assistance. Have faith!

Did you get your AMH results? I think there's some research demonstrating the importance of that number versus some of the others. And since your numbers a few years ago were similar, I wouldn't take that nurse's suggestion to heart. If it helps to hear, I had an FSH of 20.3 and got pregnant with IUI plus injections back in 2013.

I also wouldn’t stress too much about what the nurse said since your previous numbers were similar and already in this thread there are a couple of high FSH success stories.
I know it’s hard not to focus on the numbers, but try not to. The numbers aren’t meaningless, of course, but they aren’t a hard and fast indicator. I have very low AMH and after 2 failed rounds of IVF was told I’d need donor eggs. In my third round I ended up with 2 normal embryos, on of which is my now 8 week old. I know it’s not FSH but just another story of how the numbers (and doctors) aren’t always 100% right! -
Ok, just saw an RE, and I’m feeling better. We came up with our plan going forward for at least the short term.
She did an ultrasound and I have 6 follicles (3 on each side). She said that my endometriosis might have impacted the amount of eggs I have, but the quality of eggs should still be good.
If the blood work comes back appropriately, I will start clomid tomorrow and do an hsg later this week. Also, we will do a trigger shot so I can get the strongest ovulation possible.

@LAZB: That’s great! I’m glad the RE helped you to come up with a plan and although your numbers are technically “high” I agree with PP that since they are in the same range as the last time it might just be your normal! Good luck this cycle

@LAZB: please always keep in mind there's way more to getting pregnant than just those labs. My RE, OB and the internet declare my "numbers" so terrible I "never ever could conceive naturally". FSH 20s-30s, AMH 0.1, progesterone and estrogen almost off the charts etc. I got pregnant naturally twice! (miscarried once). There is emerging research FSH and even AMH are unreliable predictors of fertility. I got pregnant on a cancelled cycle with FSH 31 (!!! Look it up. BAD) and 3 tiny follicles.
So do not stress about those labs. I might even say they don't mean that much at all. FSH of 16 is doable

AMH 0.99I ultimately got diagnosed with atypical PCOS and got pregnant on the second cycle of 50mg Clomid, Metformin, Estradiol, and Progesterone. It can happen!

@LAZB: At 35, my AMH was 0.79 and my FSH was around 13. It took a bit longer but I conceived my daughter naturally. Keep the faith!

Ok, that cycle didn't work, so on to the next. I had two good sized follicles when I triggered last month, so I was hopeful, butneither took.
I just had my cd3 scan today, and had around 11-12 follicles, so about double what I had last month. Hopefully I have one or two good sized ones when I go back for my scan next week.
Just posing an update for the record -
Another update just for the record, I had one big follicle today (in the 20s)at my cd 12 ultrasound. The doctor said that the initial follicle count doesn’t necessarily indicate more or less follicles at the second scan.

Update: got my bfp this morning! So a high fsh and super low amh aren’t necessarily indication that all hope is lost!
