I am writing up my birth plan and want to include "in case of cesarean" section. However, even if I do have a c-section, I already fully plan on attempting a VBAC for baby #2.
What should I include (if anything) in my birth plan that would make a VBAC easier or more possible next go around?

This is all I have under "c-section" so far:
Cesarean Section
• If c-section is absolutely necessary, I would like my husband present.
• I do not want the baby removed from the OR after birth if possible and kept with me at all times.
• I would like to hold the baby and breastfeed as soon as possible.
• I am requesting double suturing of my uterus as we will be attempting a VBAC next time around. -
A low transverse uterine incision unless absolutely impossible & Double layer suturing for closure of incision site.
I also had that I wanted sts in the O.R.
The drape to be lowered so I could see
For my arms to not be strapped down unless necessary (like shaking etc)
And then any requests for newborn procedures.

Is there a way to find out if double layer suturing was done if you've already had a baby and are considering a vbac next time around?

@Boogs: The only way (i think) is if they did open you up again:(
My friend attempted a VBAC (and couldn't because of an emergency) and when they opened her up her doctor said "Wow, the previous doctor who worked on you left a ton of scarred tissue and unstitched pieces! Good thing we didn't go through with the vbac!"
And now that story haunts me.
I'd look into it and see if maybe your doctor can figure out what you may look like on the inside with an u/s maybe? -
@Boogs: It should be in your operative report. Just request your records from your doctor or hospital.
I had single layer suturing but had 7 1/2 years between my cesarean & vbac so it wasn't an issue.

@runsyellowlites: Thank you, I'll definitely ask. I'm still torn on which route to go, but I do want to make sure I'm 100% informed either way.

Whether to vbac or go with a erc is definitely not a simple decision to make & it's never to early to start thinking about. If you haven't already, vbacfacts.com is a WEALTH of information. It would've been alot easier for me to decide had I found it at the beginning of my decision making. For me, I ultimately chose a homebirth vbac because the hospitals where I live have a de facto ban on vbacs. I weighed all the risks & for me staying out of the hospital was what I was most comfortable with. Definitely check vbacfacts & my birth story is on here too. @TurtleDoves: Hopefully you won't have to worry about this portion of your birthplan.
