My LO hasn't let us change her laying down for a couple of months now. I thought maybe this was normal but it doesn't seem to be. She screams if I lay her down so I just let her stand and play with a toy while I change her. It works for us (although we've talked about moving the changing table since we can't use it). The only part that doesn't work as well is when we have to change her in public.
Does anyone else's LO do this? I feel like we look crazy to other people.

I only do this if all else fails. If he is particularly bad I put him on the floor and I sit next to him when my leg on his chest so he can't flip.

I used to do it reguarly, I got quite good at it, especially when we are out, some of those tables are so grungy and in airplanes, they're just too short!

My MIL was a preschool teacher and director so she was constantly changing diapers and swears by the standing up method. She says it's much easier and quicker. She tried with LO though and it didn't look so easy.....

I will say that, now that I'm used to it, I'm pretty good at changing her standing up. I just thought it was going to be a phase but apparently that's just how things are going to go now.

I have seen people change their LOs standing up. Could this be a sign she is ready for potty training?

I've been changing LO standing up occasionally. While he plays after drinking his bottle, I slowly undress him. Then, I do the diaper. I'm really good at getting him undressed before a bath standing up because he likes the tub.

She's 13 months and we've only had four accidents without a diaper on her entire life. Could that be a sign too? I feel like 13 months is too young? We were going to start trying around 18 months.

Our MDO only changes standing up. They learn to help pull their pants down and undo the diaper to prepare for potty training. I just don't understand how that works for cleaning up after a dirty (poopy) diaper.

I usually change LO while he's laying down but I sing to him and give him a toy to distract him.

@littlek: I've tried that and she freaks out and screams. I actually have to do that while standing anyway (give her a toy and sing/talk to her).

I see some of my friends do this but I just prefer to lay her down so even if she screams I try to distract her

About half the time since LO screams and flips around, making it impossible to do sometimes on her back. I like pull-ups for this.
