I can't decide if I want a changing table or just a changing pad on top the the dresser. What do you do? How often do you change your baby in their room (instead of living room or somewhere else)?

On a dresser. In our case an old pottery barn desk in a closet. I wish I would have something set up on the main level.

With LO1 we lived in a two story apartment so all changes were done in the living room. With LO2 we're in a ranch style house so I just walk to my room where there is a pad on the dresser. Living room floor didn't work out for #2 with my toddler around since she plays with all my supplies.

Our original plan was a changing table because the dresser we had was too narrow to fit a changing pad. We've decided to get new furniture for the nursery (old furniture will go into the new guest bedroom) but since we will need the extra drawer space (because of the twins). We are going with getting a dresser and a changing table. My DH has back problems so he will most likely use the changing table and I'll change diapers wherever I am... On the floor... Wherever. That's my thought process for now.
Oh, I'll add that we live in a rambler so everything in all on one floor.

Dresser. One less piece of furniture needed. We have a two story house and I still always bring her upstairs to change - it gives us an excuse to change rooms/scenery which my baby likes. Plus it means I climb the stairs more which is a plus in my book since time devoted strictly to exercise is rare currently.

Pad on dresser. One less piece of furniture and you can keep using it way after the diapers are gone.

We have a pad on top of an antique dresser we re did. Use it ever diaper change and love it!

I didn't have a dresser available to use, so I bought a dresser/change table combination that matched the crib, also from Babyletto. It's really just a chest of three drawers with a changing pad plus changing pad tray. I really wish I'd gotten a longer 6-drawer dresser, even if the finish didn't quite match, for the extra storage.
We live in a two-story, and I always go upstairs to use the change table. The exercise climbing the stairs is good for me, plus I love LO's nursery, and want to get more use out of it. When visiting my parents or the in-laws for overnight visits, I am always wishing I had a change table. I like having a routine with everything in one place.

Pad on dresser. The Keekaroo Changing Peanut was probably the #1 baby item that I bought. No icky covers to change, it just wipes clean!

I bought one of those changing mats that goes over the top of the cot. I hated changing her from the side on, so it worked really well. Obviously when she got bigger we stopped using it and now we just change her on the floor.

We put it on the dresser. Ended up changing her downstairs a good portion of the time anyhow, on a change pad on the couch or floor.

On a dresser with a changing tray and pad.
I like that the dresser is large so I can fit EVERYTHING I need on the top OR in the top drawers of the dresser. It's very convenient, whereas a changing table can be limiting (I would think based on ones I've seen).

On the dresser! I mostly change my kids in their rooms, but we have a 1 floor house with a finished basement. Now that we spend more time downstairs I'll change DD down there more but still mostly in her room.

I set up diaper changing kits around the house so I just changed them whatever room I was in.

Pad on dresser. I change LO there 100% of the time. The one time in my sleep deprived state I changed him in my bed I got poo on my sheets. Lesson learned. I live in a small apartment and don't like having baby stuff everywhere. Plus DS loves being on his changing table and will play there for hours if possible.

@Charm54: Same here! We love our keekaroo and have it on a dresser. We have a one level home so it's never really been an issue to just go into her nursery to change her.

Another vote for pad on top of dresser- unless you already have a tall dresser that t wouldn't work with. We have a waist height dresser in her room and no room for another piece of furniture.
C is 2 and I still do every single change on it, but we live in a 1 story condo bits so much easier on my back, plus it just seems more sanitary, plus convenient to have everything right there. And c is less distracted because she knows she can't get away- when I change her on the floor if we are out she tries to get up and crawl or walk away. I don't know what we would do if we had a two story house though.

We put the changing pad on top of the dresser. Used it all the time!

We have a changing table upstairs and a changing pad on a dresser downstairs. Both work fine, but I prefer the changing table. I like the storage and DD LOVES it for some reason! I figure we can use it in the playroom for when she is out of diapers. Can't go wrong with either

We have a keekaroo on the dresser. We always change his diapers upstairs/in his room on the change table.

I have a changing table and I love it! It is so nice to have the extra storage. I also bought one where the tray top is removable so when we are done with kids in diapers it can just be changed into a cute storage shelf for somewhere else in the house. I would say that 75% to 80% of our diaper changes happen on the changing table (two-story house).

Dresser! We actually used the setup a lot. Now that LO is potty training, we only use it after bath to get jammies on.
Since our house is one level, we didn't need another station. We used it for nearly every change.

Pad on dresser! DD is 9 mo and we change her there exclusively at home! We don't have huge stairs so it's not an issue for us to go up and down. Plus I don't like extra clutter elsewhere in the house, and if I want to change her somewhere else I'd have to have a caddy of supplies everywhere all the time!

Dresser with change pad. My husband made a box for the top of our dresser and screwed it on and the change pad is within that box.

Thank you for the feedback! It doesn't seem like many people use changing tables anymore...
