I wasn't sure what category to put this under exactly, but I want to know how many of you have or are planning to have an actual changing table in your nursery or just buy a changing pad and use the top of the dresser? I have been scouring Pinterest and I have found so many cute ideas for both! I'm kind of thinking that because of the bedroom size I will just buy a nice dresser and use the top of it instead of cluttering up the space with another separate piece of furniture. What do you think? Is a changing table a necessity or no? Will I regret not having one?

We went with the changing pad on top of dresser and I haven't regretted it. Now that she is a squirmy almost-toddler I need the heavy duty dresser to change her on (sometimes I just quit and do it on the floor!).

We bought a changing table. In hindsight, wish we just bought a regular dresser and put a changing pad on top. When she was about 9 months she was too squirmy to even changing there so we switched to the floor

It isn't a necessity. I got one with open shelves to use for storage. I barely use it to change her diaper anymore. I change her On The bed now.

Another vote for dresser. Her room is really small and we def don't have room for a changing table. The dresser works great and then her outfits are right there when I change her.

We are planning on using a dresser with a changing pad.

We have a changing pad on top of a dresser with a DIY tray to hold the changing pad. I use one of the top drawers to hold diapers and stuff. Don't regret it at all. I rather prefer all that stuff hidden.

we have a changing pad on the floor with a basket of supplies....one set on each level of our house....so easy, and you can prop the pad up against a wall or something to get it out of the way in a pinch.

We have a changing table with open shelves beneath. I have cute baskets to hold things on the shelves. Baby isn't here yet so I can't speak to how well the setup works but it looks great in the nursery.

We just use a dresser (a big one) but if we had the room I would have loved a changing table just for the extra storage space alone. But can you live without one? Absolutely.

In hindsight, would totally prefer the dresser option rather than buying change table! Oh well, we have one now!

We used a changing table (actually a buffet that we used as a changing table) until lo was 2. And I only stopped because I got pregnant and it's easier for me to do it on the floor then lift 30 lbs all the time.

We have a changing table and I really like it. It's nice to have all of her diaper stuff in one place. But it was a hand me down from someone else so if we hadn't been given one we would have just used a pad on top of a dresser we already had.

We have a changing table with open shelves and have put baskets on the shelves filled with a lot of essential toiletries etc. We opted not to buy a dresser though as we have built in wardrobes and use the shelves in there for any folded items that aren't in baskets on her bookshelf or changing table.
I'm happy we went with a changing table but if you don't have adequate space to store folded up items, a dresser may be more useful.
Oh and at 14 months, the change table is the only place we change our LO! She is too squirmy everywhere else but will somewhat stay put on the change table because there's not much room to move around.

We used a taller dresser for Baby's room, so it wouldn't have worked with the change pad on top. So we got a change table.

another vote for a dresser with the pad on top. The nursery was too small to have a separate changing table and dresser. I have changed LO a few times on the floor but 99% of the time its on the dresser/pad

Dresser! Actually, ours was made for a change pad, but its functional as a dresser afterwards. I would not spent money on just a change table.

We just put a towel down in DS's crib when the crib was on the highest setting. At the time, we didn't have room for a changing table and his dresser was too high. When we lowered the crib we changed him on the floor or our bed. After we moved we bought a new dresser that is the right height, so we used that.

We used a taller dresser (since we already had it) in the baby's room so we bought a changing table on Craigslist ($20!). If I had been starting without our dresser I definitely would have gone with the low dresser and pad on top.

We did the dresser and changing pad and honestly hardly even used that. We just changed her on the floor 99% of the time.

I wanted to do the pad on a dresser. DH wanted a changing table. So we got a changing table. I like it, but definitely don't think it is a must.

I have the stokke care change table. It's super ergonomic and has saved my back.. I have no idea how anyone could use a pad on a dresser... Yikes!

The only changing table we'll have is the one on the p&p we have. I don't have room for anything else. With DS I put a pad on a dresser and it worked really good for us.

I feel like a cave woman, we didn't/don't have any designated changing area. We were going to get a changing table or dresser but decided to see how it went without that...at 8 months we still just change her anywhere we're at: floor, bed, couch, anywhere (:

We're just going to use a low dresser with a pad. I really want a closed-cell foam pad (the Keekaroo Peanut) and it's sort of oddly shaped so I don't even know whether it would fit in a regular changing table. Both DH and I are on the shorter side, so I think the height won't be an issue for us.

I like having a designated changing area, but didn't want to buy an actual changing table. I wanted something that could be used after baby gets older and we change up her nursery. We decided on a table with drawers and shelves on the bottom. Bonus storage in a couple years

We are just using the Ikea Hemnes dresser with change pad. Our nursery is small so it works for us.
