I know after something major - like strep, or flu? - you probably should change out toothbrushes. Do you change out the sick person's toothbrush after a cold?
DD woke up today with a cold, wondering if it's a big deal or if I should give her the easter basket toothbrush early!

I read most things can't live longer than 48 hours and maybe some vinegar could also help.

I've just stated stocking up on them and change them out after every cold. So we all go through like a toothbrush a month at this point.

I never thought of this, but it probably couldn't hurt.
Could you put the toothbrush in the dishwasher? I've washed tooth brushes like this before. Depending on the kind, it may melt though. Although, I've never had that happen to me.

If it is a virus, i always the thought your body becomes immune to it after you get over it, so a toothbrush wouldn't be able to reinfect you. But bacterial, definitely replace.
