My 4yo is a constant chatter box. Any suggestions on ways to curb the chatter without discouraging her? I want to hear her thoughts but there are times when silence is needed.

Rather than trying to curb the chatter, can you try to teach active listening? Show her what good listening looks like (look her in the eye, nod or show interest, etc.), and then model it for her. Then request that she model it back. It takes more effort from you, but it may also curb some of the chatter because she feels like she is really being heard when she is talking. You could also give her a phrase to say when she really has something important to say, then you drop what you're doing when you can (or give her a phrase that tells her you'll give her your attention soon, e.g. "I can listen in X minutes,") and give her your full attention. It's kind of a long-term solution, but it teaches some really great communication skills.
