Need some good thoughts and encouragement!!!
Daycare just called and someone in LO's class has been diagnosed with chickpox (he's 14 months so he hasn't gotten the 2nd vaccine yet).
I'm freaking out b/c we are going on vacation to surprise my parents for their 50th anniversary on Saturday!
Can someone help me out with encouraging words???

@mkp17: I know that's scary, but the first dose of the vaccine is HIGHLY effective!!

Within the first year, it's 97% effective, and 86% effective in the second year, so I think your LO will probably be okay!

@mkp17: I'd be freaking out too, so I feel you!! I think you'll be okay though, and if she does get anything, it should be VERY mild since she's already had the first vaccine dose.

Okay so DS got CP at 14 months and even with vaccination, it wasn't as much of a nightmare as I thought it would be. I guess it's so different than when I was a kid!

@matador84: thanks! Just so worried we'll be at the beach when he gets it and he'll be miserable there and on the 6 hour ride home!!

Chicken pox has a pretty long incubation period so even if he catches it, it likely won't be until you get back.

My daughter was exposed to chicken pox at daycare at 13 months but didn't get chicken pox herself. She already had the first dose of the vaccine, and our pediatrician had us come in and get the second dose asap (usually they give it at 15 months but kids can get it as early as 12 months). Definitely see what your ped thinks.
