The closer I get to July, the more I want to gobble up books on childbirth and parenting. Can y'all recommend some of the books you found most useful when it came to giving birth/the newborn stage? I work at a library and am dying to take advantage of all the lovely reading material out there!

Breastfeeding made simple
I don't know if you're going for a natural birth, but I enjoyed Ina May's book. I also read the Mayo clinic guide to healthy pregnancy. Those were the main 3 I read. I glanced thru the baby 411 book, but never looked at it after DS was born.

Eat Sleep Poop is a good down-to-earth book that is also entertaining. Even DH peeked at parts of it!

i thought this newborn book provided a good overview of different topics (not for reading cover to cover, more like reference):

I think Baby 411 is a great general info book--has answered all my random newborn questions and kept me from calling the pediatrician/googling tons of stuff.

I just bought Your Baby's First Year, Week by Week. I don't know how helpful it will be, but I like how its broken down , one week at a time, for your baby's first year. Gives me a little insight on what to expect at certain times.
I'm also reading Breastfeeding Made Simple.
The next time I go to the midwives, I will check out their library and pass on any book titles that look good! -

I really liked Ina Mae's Spiritual Midwifery ... the birth stories are kinda, um, hippie but they're also really motivating. The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin is really good too, and not just for your partner, but for you too!
For breastfeeding - Dr. Jack Newman's Guide to Breastfeeding is really good and so is the La Leche League's Womanly Art of Breastfeeding (the newest version is a really easy read).
