We took my nearly 3 year old to see his first movie Curious George last week. He loves the movie Sing.

At home? Lady and the Tramp
At the theater? Cars3 because a sibling had worked on it
My kids don’t handle scary movies with big villains well. Their favorites were Jungle Book and Lady in the Tramp for a long time.

Funny timing - I just bought tickets to the Incredibles 2 for this coming weekend, which is going to be B’s first movie in a theatre, and I’m having second thoughts - does he have the attention span to sit through it?
I’m pretty sure both their first movies at home were Frozen.

At home, 2.5, because he was sick and basically a pathetic lump. I showed him Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (original Gene Wilder version of course) and Mary Poppins.
In the theater? I don't remember but now at four he has been to movies a number of times.

Her first movie theater movie was Moana. She was 3.5. At home, it was probably Frozen, though I don't recall at this point.

We haven’t gone to the movie theatre yet. LO has seen a couple animated movies. His favorite though is Ice Age and he calls it Baby Daddy lol.

We haven't taken her to a movie theater yet.
Her first movie at home was either Frozen or Moana... I can't remember.

My nearly 3 year old hasn't been to the theater yet. I think she's almost to the point where she'd sit through a movie.
I think her first movie at home was the Beauty and the Beast cartoon. She currently also loves Moana, Sing, Frozen, and I think Trolls is her favorite this week.

@erinbaderin: we are planning to do the same this weekend for our almost 3 year old. He has watched the first movie at home repeatedly with older sister, and we are planning on both adults and both kids so that if he can’t sit through it someone can stay with each kid. He can sit through a movie at home so I am hoping the novelty of the setting plus the familiarity of the characters will help!
My 6 y/o went to a free screening of wizard of oz at 2.5. She liked it but didn’t really understand it. I did a lot of whispered explaining. So I am anticipating similar this time!

Mary Poppins. We still haven’t taken them to the movie theater because my older LO is still very sensitive to movies and freaks out pretty easily.

First movie-theatre movie was CoCo which is such a cute movie, he was just over 3 and did great.
I think his first favorite movie was Brave, he was obsessed with the bear, he loves 'scary' movies.
Current favs: A Pet's Life, Zootopia, and Alice in Wonderland.

I can't remember her first movie really because we've been big into movies for a long time. I know when she was young (2-2.5) she was very into Cinderella (the original old one), the Care Bears movie (again, 80's one), and some other classic Disney like Alice in Wonderland and also Aladdin.
Her first movie in the theaters was Finding Dory, and since then we've taken her to see Moana. and the live action Beauty and the Beast at increasing ages.

At home we did a steady rotation of Frozen & Moana before adding to our collection.
Next month we will take her to her first movie-Hotel Transylvania 3 because we all enjoy the series. She will be almost 3 1/2.

At home, the original Cars movie was his first. In the theater, Despicable Me 3. He LOVED it.
LO2 has yet to see a movie in the theater, and typical second child...I have no idea what his first movie was. I guess because big brother has seen a bunch, and he's been around when those were on that we didn't make it a huge deal with the second.

My three year old has been enjoying movies at home for about a year. She hasn't been to the theater, but I think she could sit through one now, as long as it didn't have scary parts.
Tame movies she likes: My Neighbor Totoro, Sing, Storks
Slightly scary: Finding Dory, Zootopia, Moana, Boss Baby, Frozen
TOO scary: Ferdinand (death of parent and slaughterhouse, why did no one tell me?!)

DD1 is 3.5 and she recently stopped wanting to watch movies because all of them seem to have scary parts
She was watching Trolls, Frozen, Moana & Secret Life of Pets. Suddenly she wants nothing to do with movies! And all of these we watched at home.

At home our almost 3 year old hasn’t yet been able to sit through a movie. We’ve tried a couple but he just doesn’t have the interest. Not sure if a theater would be different since here are no distractions but I’m not planning on trying any time soon given the cost.

At home, finding dory and cars.
In the movie theater, it was smurfs, but that wasn't intentional... a local movie chain does "summer movies" for kids once a week re-playing recent favorites for $1 each at 9am.

@AnnabelleG: My son "watched" Moana for the first time when he was about 27 months. By watched, I mean he glanced at the screen for like 4 minutes total. He's not a quiet, reliable consumer of media unless it's Blippi's "Lawn Mowing" episode.

At home, Curious George.
At a theater, Cars 3. Was that last summer? I already can’t remember.

At home, Winnie the Pooh.
In the theater, Sing.
DS2 watches everything his older brother watches, so maybe his first movie was Moana?
pomegranate / 3438 posts
I can't remember what DS1's first movie at home was... I think it was Frozen. The first movie in the theater was Finding Dory.
DS2 is only 18 months and hasn't really watched movies. The only thing he will watch on tv is baseball!

None of our kids have seen one in a theater. My 5 year old only began to watch movies recently, because of end of the year stuff at school. By the time she was old enough we already had my other child(ren) and it's just not something I think either of us would enjoy enough to make the effort to just take her. My 2 year old has seen a couple at home.
Five year old's first movie was Frozen, two year old's was Moana.

@snowjewelz: we went through that stage for awhile with my five yo. We thought it was strange because they were kid movies but she did eventually get past it!

My son who is 4 saw Coco in the theater as his first theater experience. He did great sitting through the whole thing!

@snowjewelz: so funny you say that...G won't watch Moana anymore because of the crab? Really???

Home- Frozen around 2
Still havent been to a movie theater
She still loves Frozen, My Little Ponies, Good Dinosaur and The Croods
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: K likes the crab, haha. But she gets scared even of the part where she goes into the cave in the beginning...
I just watched Coco myself last night, SO cute! I don't know how mine would react to the skeletons tho, and talking about poisoning people!

The Last Unicorn. She still loves it.
She's 4.5 and hasn't been to the movie theater. I doubt she'll go for another few years. There honestly aren't many modern movies that I feel like exposing her to.
nectarine / 2086 posts
At home - Secret Life of Pets.
We haven’t taken her to a theater yet but she loves movies and I don’t think it would be a problem to sit through one. She is 2.5.
We love watching movies together as a family! She’s seen the entire Harry Potter series lol.
