DH hired a professional company to come in and clean the carpet in our downstairs family room and it looks soooooooo good!!! I think we might be able to get a few more years out of that carpet if the old stains don't come back up. Small things make me so happy these days.

We did this right when we moved into our house! It was amazing! But now after living there for 6 months now I feel like it could use it again....I borrowed my parent's carpet cleaner and I think I'm just going to do it myself, then maybe next year we will hire professionals to come in again

Oh man, I hate carpet! The rental we're in right now has it, and keeping it clean with a toddler is a nightmare. We bought a nice quality steam cleaner, and it works really well. If you do that on the stains once or twice a month, you can really keep on top of them.

@sarac: DH is the same, he wants to rip it out, but I really like carpet in some spaces. I think it's nice for LO to have a soft spot to fall on. Apparently the carpet guy said he used 35 gallons of water to clean our floors in that one room :S

@prettylizy: Yeah, this is the conundrum. I absolutely despise carpet. And yet, I see the difference between a toddler falling at my house - a sad boo boo, and on my sisters hardwood - a big painful bruise and sometimes a genuine injury. I see how I'd have to be more careful if we had hardwood, and my daughter might not be quite the fearless bruiser that she is now.
