Any way to clean cloudy bottles and nipples? Not sure if it’s because they haven’t been used for a while, were previously used, or what. Would rather not replace if I don’t have to!

I found I needed hot water, real dish soap, and a dedicated sponge. I'd soak everything in hot, soapy water. Then I wipe with the sponge. Then rinse. Bottle soap and bottle brushes didn't work

I would replace the nipples because they degrade with time, and are typically relatively inexpensive. For the bottles, try soaking in hot soapy water, scrubbing hard, and then sterilizing in boiling water.

My bottles and pump parts are like this and there's nothing I can do, even with scrubbing, hot water, sterilizing, etc. I think it is a combination of breast milk + our local water supply. I don't think it's harmful.

@periwinklebee: I might consider this once I know what bottles she’ll even take lol.
@MrsADS: Have you used the same ones for your kids?

@lindsayinny I did buy new bottles for my second, although I probably could have reused the first set. We use Mam bottles, which aren't that expensive, so I bought a new set for like, under $30. I did reuse pump parts.

@LindsayInNY: I’m pretty sure it’s the hardness of your water. We have hard water and our bottles are like that. But when I took the same bottles to my in-laws and washed them there, they came out clear (nothing else was changed). I used them all the time despite being cloudy.

@Hypatia: Weird. I don’t remember them being like this with my oldest. Maybe I’ll try washing or sterilizing them - I don’t think I have yet. I can’t remember lol.

I just read a tip for clearing cloudy glasses by using the steam from a hot kettle - maybe would work on bottles / similar to sterilizing.

@LindsayInNY: I have hard water and mine are like this too. I can never get them looking clean. I'm also too cheap to replace them!

@LindsayInNY: I still use cloudy bottles (comotomo), but I do replace the nipples at times. For pump parts, I totally still use them. I boil them often.

Is it hard water? Try a vinegar rinse? (We don't use bottles, but that's what I have to do for the rest of our dishes if I want them sparkling!)

I'd try hot soapy water with a couple 'glugs' of vinegar. I notice mine get cloudy if I boil them with the vinegar.

hard water, doesn't affect baby I imagine, but could try vinegar, I did that for the first time.

@LindsayInNY: have they been in the dishwasher? I think that can cause the cloudiness
