If I can ask, what specifically is making it difficult? That it takes up a whole night to clean? Or that you're afraid the chemicals linger till the next day?

I just routinely clean our bathrooms once a week (I have 2 full, but never use the 2nd bath so it's like cleaning 1.5). I clean the tub when I am IN it to shower, is that weird/does that make sense? So I'll get in there, scrub, wash off and then continue to shower. Also use the squeegee daily on tile walls/glass doors. So when I clean bathrooms, I'm really only wiping all surfaces, scrubbing the sinks and the toilet.

DH always gets done with putting DD1 to sleep first, so he has chores he does so that by the time I come down after putting DD2 to bed, I can just do my part too and we can relax (or on light chore nights, he is all done so I don't have to do anything!)

Editing for the 100th time: But we also don't eliminate weekend nights for chores, but I do try to do the bulk of it during the week so there's not much to do on weekend nights. No chores weekend days.

@jennlin821: I totally agree with you on the tub- we have one that’s like one piece, laminate/ plasticky feeling, in the kids bathroom and it is so much easier to clean than tile. I think it looks kind of cheap and not the nicest, but for this time in our lives it’s great. Plus if the kids slip in the tub it hurts way less to bonk that than a nice porcelain tub. Tile is such a pain in the butt.

I don’t have any real advice though since we have a cleaner come once a month and she does a good deep cleaning of the bathrooms and I just wipe down surfaces with Lysol wipes and clean the toilets in between.

@muffinsmuffins: @graceandjoy: what do you use to clean the shower while you are in it? I wouldn’t want to be in the shower while I’m spraying scrubbing bubbles or something.

@jennlin821: Oh I see! Could you swap out another chore with cleaning the bath? I cannot stand the smell of bleach so I actually don't really use bleach at all at home.

I just have a Target squeegee to get the water off the tiles/glass so they don't get the water stains.

We have an every 3 week house cleaner now which helps a ton, but I used to use the type of dish wand where you can load soap in it, and would put cleaning solution in there. It didn't always spray the best so I also would just use a spray bottle sometimes. The kind with a brush head (not sponge head) works best. I stocked up on Wegman's plant based tub and tile when it was discontinued, but Seventh Generation tub and tile would work too. I use regular Bon Ami.

I find the tub to be the hardest part. Counters, sink, and toilet I just do every few days with Lysol wipes in norovirus/flu season, and Green Works wipes the rest of the year. Those have to be done regardless of having a cleaner come and are easy to do while the kids bathe or the shower heats up in the morning. I use Seventh Generation or whatever off brand natural toilet bowl cleaner is cheaper/has an okay EWG score.

We have a tile shower with a glass door. I keep a daily shower spray, a magic eraser, and a grout brush in the shower.

I've done a lot of experimenting, and I've found that if I use the daily shower spray both morning and night (the shower is used at both times), I can really cut down on any other cleaning. I use the Whole Foods 365 daily shower spray.

When I'm taking a shower, I grab the grout brush or magic eraser and do a quick scrub (maybe a minute?) of the worst part of the shower, whether it looks great or terrible. After a few days the shower generally looks very clean, even if it started off looking awful.

It's been great to take care of the shower as more of a daily habit. It used to be a project that would take up a chunk of time. Plus, it generally looked bad in between. Now it looks good as long as we don't have a newborn or some other major interruption in my daily life.

@jennlin821: Can you please share your entire schedule with me??? I would love to get something like this started.

ETA: I love the smell of bleach!! The epitome of "clean" smell, to me. And yes to a homemade cleaner. I have one made out of doterra essential oils that i use a lot, just not sure i would use it for the bathroom, which I think definitely requires hard core bleach. But then again, I'm not a full essential oil convert.

I mostly use the magic eraser on the glass, but it works on the larger tiles as well. I don't use it on the floor where the tiles are small because it gets torn up by all the edges.
