what do you use to clean you infants tongue and mouth? The pedi suggested using a wet soft cotton cloth wrapped around my finger and then placing it in her mouth and when she starts to suck I should wipe from side to side. But my LO only lets my clean the very front of her tongue. How do you guys clean you LO's tongue

My mom does that for LO cause she doesn't like the milk staining. She thinks it hinders LO's taste buds. The soft cotton cloth really got her tongue really clean!

The soft wash clothes, but I have to admit I wouldn't do it often.

My LO's tongue never looked white, so I didn't even think to clean it.

I honestly never did that either!
Just throwing it out there, not to scare you, but thrush causes a white tongue.

@Andrea: Yes thats why I want to clean it, because if its thrush it doesnt come off when you wipe it. So my pedi advised me to always keep her tongue clean that way I can tell right away if she has thrush or something else.

@Mrsbells: I probably forgot already but LO did have thrush once and that was the only time her tongue was white.

Had to come back to this thread. My pediatrician told me not to worry about LO's white tongue (this was Friday) when I asked her after reading this thread. She said it wasn't thrush, just milk tongue but told me I could do the washcloth thing if I was bothered by it.
I noticed that some of the patches were turning green and was getting scared something was wrong. Of course I go to Dr. Google and a mom mentioned she experienced the same thing and it turned out to be lint. So I got the washcloth out and cleaned her tongue (with much crying on her part) and those green specks were lint! We've had her in little mittens because she's been scratching her face and she always shoves the mittens in her mouth. Linty mouth!

DS gulps his bottle so fast I swear his tongue is never dirty lol my MIL wanted to give him a teaspoon of water to clean his mouth...I haven't done anything

Yeah every couple of days I clean her tongue with a wash cloth cos when she yawns and /i see the milk staining it bothers me lol
