What are your go-to stores/brands to get high quality clothing for yourself that will last forever, but won't break the bank? I don't care about designer labels, etc, just want quality.

Boden! Probably half of my dresses are from them and I wear most of them weekly. The quality is great and they hold up well in the laundry. I always wait for a sale then stock up.

@lamariniere: I love their style! A few questions: How does their sizing run? Are the wash instructions particularly fussy? How often do they have sales?

The only thing I can bring myself to spend money on to see if it will last it's jeans, and I love Buckles house brand BKE. I've had some pairs for 4 years now and still going strong.

Following!
@crazydoglady: I’m also a fan of Boden. They have a huge sample sale in my area every year. Their sizing feels a little all over the place, so I definitely like to try on when I can. They have great customer service if you need a return though!

LL Bean! They run great sales! They also have a generous return policy.

Oh I also shop the Lilly Pulitzer after party sale 2x a year for my summer/vacation clothes. The sale starts tomorrow funny enough. I never buy full price. It’s marked down 50-75%

Eddie Bauer. A lot of their stuff (especially pants) is meh looking, but the stuff is well made and most of it looks better in person. I love their dresses and tees. Don't buy their shoes.

@crazydoglady: when I buy, I buy from the UK site since I live abroad. Each garment has detailed individual measurements so I always look at those, and I also read the reviews. I am usually between 2 sizes with them since I'm fairly petite, but a 34C. For dresses, I know that if it's a stretchy fabric, I can usually go down a size and if it's something less forgiving, like linen, I go up a size to accommodate the bust. I just bought a bikini from them and the top was right on. I read the reviews for the bottoms and everyone said they ran small, so I bought a size up and it was perfect. I've only ever returned maybe two items due to the cut or fit just not working. For washing, it's easy. I just machine wash and hang dry, but we don't have a dryer, and even if we did, I hang dry most of my clothes anyway. I have one lacy party dress and it's dry clean only, but it's the only fancier piece I have from them. As for sales, in the UK they seem to do the bigger 30% off sales 2-3 times a season, but they did a lot leading up to the holidays this year (I just know from getting their emails). They usually do an annual clearance once a season, but stuff that I'm interested in usually sells out in my size before.

I've had some good success with used clothing websites lately - got a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans (usually ~$100) for $20 and a few purses for about $20 each (usually $80-100). For the jeans, I have another pair from the same brand that I love so I got the same size/style and they fit great! This was on ThredUp and Poshmark. They have jewelry and other accessories too.

@lamariniere: Thank you for writing that all out. I will definitely look at the reviews to gauge sizing.

@Ms. RV: Totally agree. Really great quality stuff. There's an Eddie Bauer outlet at home that my mother goes to about once a week.
I know most people think of them for hiking gear, but they also have slacks, cardigans, nice sweaters and button-ups. Most of my Eddie Bauer t-shirts from HS (a decade ago) are still in great shape, no pilling, stretching or fading.
To be fair, they tend to not be overtly on-trend, they stick with pretty classic designs, but that's what I like
