Seriously?! I had read that people are upset about the Coke ad, but saw nothing but praise from my Facebook feed.

I had heard that people were upset about it but I didn't see that on mine. i'm surprised to hear that people have issues with it.

I loved the commercial. I too got one stray negative fb reaction and it didn't make much sense. I almost deleted that person. I mean are we so jaded that we can't see the positive in anything?

my news feed is a mess. I was actually defriended by family members because I liked the Coke commercial, and cracked on them for being so outraged about how the English language is going down the tubes, yet their statuses were all a grammatical MESS.

same with the national anthem. I actually posted a status about that yesterday, lol. how sad that more people are outraged about the Coke commercial than they are the scarily high number of people who don't know our national anthem.

patriotic enough to throw a fit, not patriotic enough to know their own anthem.

I read a few articles about the commercial and the comments were awful!

I honestly don't even understand why people are making such a big deal out of this, I thought it was loveley and if anything it seemed more like a compliment to our country not some terrorist act...

Anyone who finds that ad controversial totally and completely baffles me. I am lucky enough to have run into very little racism and bigotry in my life, so when I heard the outrage over this ad I just could not believe it.

By the way, anyone wanting to boycott Coca-Cola needs to boycott more than just Coke and Diet Coke... lots and lots of other food and beverage products, along with American Idol, the World Cup, Nascar, the NBA, the NCAA, the PGA tour, the Olympics... have fun boycotting all of those!

@pui: I've spent my whole life in America and I don't get it either. But a large segment of our population seems intent on hate for hate's sake alone.

At the end of that commercial, which I *loved* and found incredibly moving, I said to my husband, "Well, that's going to be controversial." My very liberal husband could not understand why I thought that. As much as I hate that this is controversial (why, exactly?!?), I am glad to see I wasn't totally crazy.

I only heard about the controversy through @sorrycharlie: but now my FB newsfeed is abuzz expressing outrage or disappointment with all the people who are against this commercial.

I didn't see anything coming across my fb feed, but I read a few articles where they showed some twitter reactions to it. Man, people are looney. I thought the commercial was beautiful - I actually teared up while it was on. I have de-friended people over similar things, and if any of my fb friends had negatives things to say about that commercial, well...off, they go!

I like to think of The US not as a melting pot but rather as a big pot of stew. To me, a melting pot indicates that all the parts melt down and blend and become one homogenous thing, like a big pot of fondue. But I don't see the US as such. We are a stew - big chunks of different things which come together to create something really beautiful - we are all delicious on our own, but when you put us all together, you have a masterpiece!

No one on my Facebook has said anything negative, but I grew up and went to college in very liberal areas so good or bad my Facebook friends are mostly just an echo chamber of my own views, haha. It just cracks me up that most of the native English speakers on twitter who used the #speakamerican hashtag can barely speak it properly themselves...
