We gave our son coconut yogurt. We alternated with rice yogurt so we didn't bombard his body with anything. Coconut is not usually considered a treenut but more and more people are allergic to it.

It's not a nut but I would be careful with it and watch very closely for a reaction if you give it to T. As @brownie said, people are reporting more allergies to coconut recently.

@Andrea: Thx. I'll ask his doctor anyway. I'm looking for some milk/soy alternatives. What did you give to LO when she started eating more solids since she had the dairy issue?

@winniebee: she was fine with regular cheese and yogurt actually. It's not as hard on their digestive system as plain milk so T might be fine as well. I would try the regular stuff first unless your doc says not to.

It's not a tree nut, it's a fruit. That said, it is totally possible to be allergic to it and I would never recommend that anyone eat/feed it too often because I never noticed my coconut allergy until I drank coconut water for a few days in a row. (I also have a peanut/tree nut allergy.)

P eats coconut milk yogurt everyday since its the only way for her to get probiotics as every other one I found suitable for kids is cultured in either dairy or soy. We haven't seen any adverse issues & her tummy has actually been doing better with the probiotic exposure. Considering the new recommendations on solids & not having to delay anything (except honey) unless there's a family history of allergy, I wouldn't worry about it.

@Andrea: yah he is supposed to stay away from all dairy until our next GI check up in a few months.
@runsyellowlites: thanks!

@winniebee: I think I waited until closer to a year to give her yogurt/cheese anyway. But maybe the coconut milk yogurt is the way to go!
